AmrutRaju…Thank you for the comment. I finally managed to complete the Gorillaman, got him posed, rendered him in layers and composited him. I would like to call him complete at the moment. Please comment.

Hello guys, I am working on my showreel. So after the Afro Gorilla Rapper, I decided to do an old man’s face.

Completely modeled in zbrush with zspheres, textured in photoshop, and rendered in 3dsmax. Hope you guys like it

Here’s the zbrush version of it…

HEY …Vikram…

I like the gorilla rapper…wish his head were bigger though…i’m not into the tiny heads on a huge body thing that’s become the style as of lately…but that’s just me…old fashioned I guess…LOL…
That old guy you just posted is AMAZING…to my eye anyway…On the fully rendered with color version…top one,…Maybe a tad more work on the top edge of the skull, and the areas leading up to that edge…look a little flat .especally when you isolate that edge and the areas leading up and into it from the rest of the head…I like the way the edge on the shoulders look…The outter edges have alot of variation to them, making them look as though they are a rounded volume…Maybe the same variation or something simaler for the top edge of the skull…Just a passing thought that might be useful to you in pushing it further.
Anyway GREAT work…Very inspiring…LOOKING FORWARD TO SEEING…MORE
TAKE CARE
Glenn

really nice work on the old man there! I think a nice sss shader and better eyeballs would give the model way more justice in max though… even just doing some photo eyes in PS in post would make him look more alive - right now the eyes are cartoony in comparison to the realistic sculpt… Keep it up!

Hi Glenn thank you very much for dropping by and taking the time to write the comment…I’ll definitely work on it. The Gorilla rapper was done for a client, and unfortunately, it stirred some controversy at zbrushcentral for not being politically correct. It was actually done for a client and he wanted it that way.

Magda thank you. Yes I tried some tests with the sss. I’ll work on it and post another render. Eyes seem to be a very complicated thing to deal with and getting it to look right seems to be a very hard task to accomplish.

#66

Wow, great job on the old man! I love how you treated aged skin. The left ear in the rendered version looks a bit funny to me, but only if I look hard.

#67

Thank you for the reply Heozart.

Here’s the final version of the render…I made the skin scatter more light, and changed the eyes.

#68

he keeps looking at me… it’s spooky!
Great work buddy!

#69

looks much better already… what’s with the david bowie eyes? they look like one’s green and one’s blue - or am I going mad?:scream:

#70

Thank you guys…Glad you liked the old man. Magda, I think it’s the chromatic aberration that makes it look like that. They both are green

#71

Great work on the old man’s head. It looks like the skin could use a bit of reflections, to make it look more natural. Keep going!

#72

Battle 812, thank you for your reply. The skin does reflect the environment a little bit. Maybe I should turn it up some more.

#73

Nice portrait man, i m little bit concerned about eye wrinkles, jaw area and ear; really nice job:thumbsup:

#74

Nice work Vikram! Specially the portrait of an old man!
The left (of the viewer) ear seems to be bizzare or is it just looks to me as compared to the other one. Anyways, first class work and nice skin render!

#75

Hi bhaskar, thank you for your reply. I’m glad you liked it. I don’t really know about the weirdness of the ear… I think it’s the light playing with the sss. I have an updated version of the same in my cgtalk portfolio. I’ve tried to match the right ear to the thickness of the left.

Oh Amrut Raju, your reply hadn’t popped up when I typed in this…Thanks…That’s something to do with the epidermal or subdermal scatter radius. If I soften those areas out, it seems to eat away the details of the normal map. So it’s either sharp normal map or soft skin. I decided to balance the two. That’s the reason for the sharp normal map details on the chin and the under eye. I’ll have to find ways of solving that issues in the future.

Hey, Vikram!

Love the old dude. Nice expression and I like the waterry eyes. Do the eyes have a different color or do they just look like that with this lighting? I’ve a classmate whose one eye is less saturated than the other, so also different eyes. I guess it’s possible then!
One little thing that would make it even more realistic is some facial hair. You know, that little, tiny, soft hair. Just a suggestion, the piece looks great as it is. Might come in handy in future pieces maybe

Cheers!

#77

Thank you for the reply razz. Glad you liked the old man. I will definitely keep in mind the facial hair for the next render. The eyes are both green. I think its the chromatic abberation that makes it look like that i think. Wow, you have a classmate with one eye less saturated? That’s awesome!!!

Hey guys, I’ve decided to participate in the DW, and this crazy idea found it’s way to me. Here is the sketch and sculpts I’ve done on him so far. He’s actually partly lying on the machines body with his legs tilted backwards. This is what I am still doubtful about. What do you guys think?

#79

Hey Vikram! Great start on this new one!

hey Vikram!!

I was looking for your entry . . . its a cyborg right?

looking forward to more updates.
