Hi …Rett…

I can’t think of any other Old Masters off hand at the moment who made and used
small sculptures to use as their models for their painting idea’s, other than Da Vinci,
and he destroyed most of his, after he finished useing them, all but a few have been
lost to time. But I do know Da Vinci’s method works… I used it on my
Grissly Bear and Bison fight painting…go to my web site…in NEW IMAGES…
This method is simple, and really helps you to understand the form your working with
in all respects …lighting ect. ect. ect…plus you might even end up with a nice
little sculpture…I did…
Rebecca’s book also looks great…might be more information on this subject in there…

Take Care…and hope to see more on this undertaking of yours…ATLAS a CLASSIC…NICE…

Here is a tattoo design that I just finished up for a friend of mine at work. He is going to get it inked on this weekend. I’ll post a picture of the tattoo artist’s interpretation of it sometime next week. As I was drawing, I had it was weird sensation to realize that somebody was going to put this drawing forever on their body. Makes me wish I was a MUCH better artist. Very humbling.

The design of course is an ironic flip-flop from the current OFDW so somtimes you have to take a break from demons and draw an angel or two

Just realized I never posted my final of for OFDW 11 here.

Vidar3d,

Oh, good to see you posting this…did your friend get the tatoo?

Cheers,

Becca - He was supposed to get it done on Saturday. He should be in to work in about an hour than I’ll let you know.

No image for me either.

So bizzare. I can’t see it unless I use Safari as my browser. If only the whole world used Macs what a better world it would be. Sorry for the hassle guys, hopefully this one will work:

Here is a quick drawing I started at around midnight. I’ve spent about an hour on it. Still pretty rough but I thought I post it as a WIP and now I’m off to bed.

#34

I had another hour come free suddenly and couldn’t think of a better way to spend it than to work some more on my drawing from last night. Spend some time tightening up the drawing a bit and working on the head and face. Of the cursed hands are probably the next step but so far i am happy with it.

hi Vidar3d

really good process sofar  - there’s just one thing that bothers me. the contours of the torso runs in an extraordinary smooth curve and there’s almost no suggestion of a ribcage. I find it helpful to think of the ribcage and the pelvic area as two different shapes, one sitting ontop of the other connected by soft tissue that stretch and compress as the shapes move around.
yours is starting to look a little like a bend tube. It might be nice to accent the ribcage a little more and also the compression of the area between the ribcage and pelvic region.

I just thought it would point it out, even thou I’m sure your ontop of it.

Hi…Rett…looks like she’s shapeing up nicely…really like the colors and softness going on
in the whole painting…lighting looks great also…glad to see you are back…
Doctor Bone just posted a whole bunch of hands on his thread…you might want to take a look.
Might be something in there to help you with the hands your working on now…

Hi, Vidar,

Your second piece is coming along beautifully, though I agree with the comments David thoughtfully pointed out. I think the first piece needs to be developed more, but of course you are just in the beginning stages, and I know how quickly things can change. Looking forward to more updates!

Cheers,

David - Thanks so much for your helpful suggestions. You are correct that is still a work in progress for me but please never hesitate to point out things that look odd even if they seem like they should be obvious.

Glen - Thanks for the kind words. Yeah I have learned a lot from teh Bonezone. I really like his style and its so interesting to see the way he develops his constructions.

Becca - Yeah I need to get back to the potrait and tighten it up. Sadly I was doing that from life and don’t have a photograph or access to model so I’m a bit stuck, I’ll just have to rely on my VAST knowledge of facial anatomy and finish it from memory and make the rest of the stuff up. I have enjoyed the drawings you’ve made in reference to your thesis, I haven’t had time to do much posting but keep up the good work.

Taking into some of Corvax’s suggestions about the torso and just tightening up some other areas as well. Here is the update:

And another just for fun sketch of lunar search and rescue worker scanning for survivors:

Thanks a lot! You know, I’ve been pretty terrible about replying to my own thread, lol, but I did see your earlier comment and really appreciate the feedback.

Nice update on the female figurative piece! I think you can really exploit the pink / green contrast you have going by using some rich / dark greens in the bkgrd.

I would say to continue to enrich the colors, and try not to muddy them too much…I like the rich pallette, and just think you need to punch up contrast and saturation in places.

Keep up the good work!

Cheers,
