Nice! The walking boxer looks great with taht lighting. And his pose is good. But it doesn’t mach with the other boxer, because he looks that he has just been hit and the other looks too calm after making that hit. Though I might be wrong about this.
And one thing I don’t like about it is the effect throughout the whole image, look very random and distracts the eye.
This image could be like a street fight, the lighting gives me such an idea. It seems that it’s a street light, dunno.
Waiting where you’ll push it :bounce:
Sketchbook Thread of Spirit Dreamer
Hi Glen, sorry for not stopping by earlier!
Im liking beauty6 - the one posted on 11/30. Think the composition works well, and I think that desaturating the colours has taken it much further. Sometimes I feel the highly saturated colours in your works clash a bit, something to watch out for!
anyway, nice work!
ciao!

HEY…RAZZ…THANKS for stopping by…always a pleasure hearing from you…
I have a personal theory when it comes to painting from the imagination. I think it is better to start with imperfection, and work towards perfection as the painting progresses.
Kind of the way when you look at a stain on a wall, or a cloud in the sky, your imagination kicks in, and creats what logic doesn’t see, but only becomes evident when it is painted.
I see things in the overall texture, lighting ect. , some of the things I see will stay, and become other things …kind of thing…
Know you are having a problem creating from the imagination, so I thought my theory worth mentioning …Don’t be afraid to make mistakes…learn how to use them to your advantage.
That is a key element to a susessful painting done from the imagination…just my opinion…
HEY…Demented…THANKS…Do a hundred paintings, and a couple of them might be worth saving…just a case of …ODDS…
…Glad you enjoyed that one you mentioned…
Really like the perpective and motion of that painting of the creatures flying over the canyon that you just posted on your thread by the way…nice composition there…![]()

A little further along on this vision from the imagination…
Yes! Now really awesome, Glenn! I like the colors a lot. Thinking about those ropes, do they give a + to the composition or don’t they, but I’m weak at this point. The standing boxers head looks a tad too small I think. In my opinion you should choose the view you had in the previous wip, where the viewer is IN the ring, not watching the fight from outside. I feel so strange giving crits to you, 'cause you have so much more knowledge than I do. Oh well…
hey glen
wow, real intense colors and feel here. somehow the heads look a bit orkish to me, but that could be too much lord of the rings this weekend
im not too sure about the ropes either, i think it would be more intense without them. there is also something about the gloves that is bothering me but maybe its only that they are so flat and undone compared to the detailed faces.
will wait for an update and see then
take care

HEY…MR MU…THANKS…So when are you coming out of RETIREMENT…
I miss seeing
your work and thoughts expressed…
HEY…RAZZ…THANKS…These are mainly just experiments in technique, color ect. at this point…trying a little of this, and a little of that, searching for things that work well together.
Hopeing to get one really nice one by the end of this series.
Will have learned a lot by the time I get there, in any case.
Thanks for your opinions and suggestions,…they keep pushing me further in the right direction…![]()
HEY… Llynna…THANKS…They do look a little ORKISH…
…Not my intention for this series,…want humans in the ring, not monsters…
Thanks for the observation, always good to have extra eyes, to keep that sort of thing in check…the gloves, I’m working on them…
…THANKS for stopping by…by the way…been awhile…always nice to hear from you, hope everything is going good your way…![]()

Another day,Another version…
hey glen
great to see you update. the human in the forground improved big time, does look real human not orkish anymore. i think the problem with the other one are those sphere like thinks on both sites of the nose. get rid of those and he will look much more human.
its much more consistens now without the ropes in the foreground now by the way.
i realized whats bothering me about those gloves. its mostly the right glove of the foreground human. i think it would help big time if you make him but the hand more vertical. that way it wont look so cubish.
yea, it realy has been a long time but there was so much to do at university plus some real long time in hospital but now im back and online and so excited to be around all you people again
cheers
Wow, Glenn… the last image is awesome!!:bounce:… really stays in the mind… great colors… and the zbrush heads blend so nicely!! its proving to be a great series!!![]()
Dear Glenn,
I think the tension would be even higher if the standing boxer would have a rather agressive look on his face, maybe his upper lip curled upward… like he’s saying something like “… and now you stay down!”
I also agree on the nostrils with Llynna.
Colors are indeed awesome… very lively without going over the top, but then again that’s one of your strongest skills (imho)
Always looking forward to see more Glenn!
Gotta run off for now… busy times at work

THANKS…Llynna…That glove was bothering me also, but wasn’t quite sure why…blinded by looking at it too long I guess…thanks for the fresh eyes…![]()
HEY…Anand…THANK YOU…This is the second time that I’ve tried pasting heads onto a figure…kind of tricky, but has some advantages for what I’m doing at the moment.
Will have to get actual photo portraits of ALI, and JACK JOHNSON to make nice head sculptures that actually look like the fighters that I am representing for my final versons that I have in mind for this series I think…Glad you are enjoying these. It’s been a lot of fun for me doing them…learning a lot as I go along, which is always nice…
Gisaiagami …THANK YOU…Glad you enjoy my work…
NR43 / Johan…THANKS…
…And now, just for you,…I made him MEAN…TO FIT THE SCENE…
THANKS for the GREAT FEEDBACK EVERYONE…REALLY HELPFUL…![]()

A little more work on this one
This is beautiful, Glenn, full of the whispers of the world, I adore the colours. The zbrush stuff is always a treat from you, you manage to do wonderful, unimagined things with it. The angry face of the boxer above just makes the picture too… always a pleasure stopping by this thread!
Oh yeah! kick his…é#&à!
err… oops… got a lil carried away here…
thanks for that Glenn! the zoom really shows that it’s possible to tell a lot with just a few strokes… when you’re as good as you
makes me regret I won’t be able to practice anything today… will be going from busy work straight to an early Xmas party with the colleagues today… hm maybe I’ll run off there early and paint a bit tonight
Hi Glen!
Hey those boxing images are awesome - their gloves look like they’re made of glass somehow…
Wow, you have a really crazy way of painting, I don’t think I’ve seen anyone paint like this before! Very unique.
