Hi…Anand…THANKS. …Glad you are likeing these…Boxing gives me an endless set of poses that I can work with, and a nice variety of concepts within it to choose from.
I boxed a little while I was in the navy years ago, so now that experience is coming in handy
to get the feeling and proper stances that I want in these paintings that I am creating.
Billy Blanks had a studio here in Ouincy MA., where I live…Before he went out to Hollywood and got famous teaching TIBO,…LOL…:scream: …he used to teach KARATE…I took lessons from him in the late 80’s…After I get burned out on these boxing paintings, think I will do a series of paintings on KARATE…Will give me a chance to do some great hand and feet gestures, along with some great ACTION… …Just thinking ahead here…
Will be a great way to put what I am learning with this Z BRUSH, to use, I THINK.

HEY…Trunks…THANKS…Been awhile…Hope your school went OK…Im going back to school myself, in January…taking a figure drawing class , 29 sessions…The teacher got his masters in FLORANCE ITALY:bounce: …his name is Vico Fabbris…teaches at my old school here in Boston.
I don’t know how good he is , but it should be fun…I have been feeling the need to get back into some conti crayon and pastel work lately…been too long. This class should get me back into the swing of things pretty quick, I THINK…
About the head being too small on that last boxer…that is the first time I ever tried pasting a head onto a figure, with a layer…I made it a little bit bigger, and it didn’t look right somehow, so I left it at the size where I thout it looked the best…:scream: Next one will be better hopefully…still experimenting with this technique, will get it right, sooner or later…LOL.:scream:
THANKS for stopping by guys…and for the feedback, and encouragment

Hey Glenn, I think it’s really great that with all your experience and skills you still want to attend school, being curious what you will be taught and how your tutor will bring his knowledge over to you. I think it’s what makes artists special… always searching for more knowledge and better skills or polishing them rusty ones!

I wish you many hours of FUN in class

#863

Hey Glenn,
Enjoying your enjoyment of Zsculpting. Have you seen Steve Huston’s work before? http://hustonart.com He was one of my teachers when I worked at the studios. He helped me to describe figures in a more flowing sense. His themes often were about boxers in action. He came in with a black eye once, so I know he was a major enthusiast in the sport. I really think you may find his work, I was gonna say inspirational but can see that’s not an issue, interesting.

In a sort of abstract expressionistic mood today…
Sometimes it is just plain fun, and refreshing, to lock all the rules in a box, take off the leash, free the imagination, and let it run where it’s nose takes it…:scream:

Great going, Glenn!! It will great to see your Karate series as well!! I used to to do a bit of Karate. Used to love it… Had to stop bcos of a lower-back problem… still a great fan of martial arts… Have you ever watched the Indian martial art form called “Kalari Payattu”… it originated in Kerala… where I grew up… watch it if you can get a video or something… its spectacular!!

Hi…Anand…THANKS FOR STOPPING BY, …IT’S ALWAYS A PLEASURE TO HEAR FROM YOU…
I’m a big fan of martial arts also, and the whole philosiphy that goes with it.
ONLY IN SELF DEFENCE…
I thought that I had forgotten what I learned years ago,…until I was atacked in the sub way train station a couple of years ago, by some nut…INSTINCT and REFLEX TOOK OVER IN A FLASH, and my body reacted, before my mind…Kind of surprised me,…almost more than my atacker, as he hit the ground, with a big thump… :scream:
KARATE probably saved my life, IN THAT CASE…  :bounce:
Will have to look up that form of martial arts that you mentioned above…might be useful in one of my paintings…always curious about new things like that…
Talk to you later

Woohoo! Softer earthier colors! I think these look fantastic, and compliment the action by not distracting the eye.

Hello, SpiritDreamer. Very nice images. The second in the post #869 looks georgous!! Like a step forward from you. The focal point is there, the eye doesn’t get distracted to the surroundings, they only add a great effect to the whole image :scream:
Interesting mix of 3D and 2D in the last one. About the 2D part, I like those long strokes you do. For example that from the top of the nose to the very botom of it. Makes me remember Sargent and his masterful strokes
Hey, and your Zbrush sculpts have improved in these last few updates. Maybe you’ve only worked more on it, but I like it better :bounce:
