hehe - well whichever way works for you as long as you’re adding ![]()
Sketchbook Thread of Sirron
that’s a nice workflow anim!
I want to see some shadows
Also looking forward to see how you’ll give it some texture

Not sure how to go about with the arms and the sleeves look a little flat to me like there’s no arm underneath. Ah well, time to work on the armor and get back to the skin later. Ok…
Give me a Hardcore critique . What can I do to improve? Don’t hold back, I can take it
But please be thorough.

SirRon, to be honest, what I think would benefit you most would be to do pages and pages of Sketchbook studies, in traditional pencil or pen, of Anatomy Studies from books like Loomis, Hogarth, and books that can be found linked on this thread:
Anatomy Resources : BOOKS

Check out razz’s thread to see how many Anatomy Studies and sketches he is doing. That’s how many you should be doing as well to improve.
Hope to see some anatomy studies!
Since I’m wanting to work on the arm, figure I’d start there.

I’ll work my way up to muscles and skin soon. One thing I noticed from the Anatomy for the Artist book, I wish the carpal bones in the hand were more accurately depicted.
More on the way.
Hey SirRon
good to see you are taking Rebecca’s advise. Best thing to do for all of us really
Hoping to see a lot of anatomy studies here soon. Once you’ll get into it… there will be no way back :bounce:

I’ll try to go past just copying some anatomy from a book (the one you see on the right is Loomis btw) and try adding another exercise that I’ll think of.
Nice to see this recent post.
I think the shading looks a lot more careful here - keep going in this direction, I think it’s a good one!
Thanks Rebecca! Very happy that you like it.
New one. I was going to do something like using a blue pencil to sketch in the muscles and a 2B to shade over it, but I tested the idea with Photoshop and didn’t turn out well. So I’ll just leave it like this.

Like I said before, I’m open to ANY crit.
SirRon,
At this stage in the game, I don’t think it’s as much about individual crits as seeing a large quantity of good quality work such as you have started
- it takes hundreds of drawings like these / and life drawings to get really good, and it’s impossible to crit each one - the main thing I can do is to encourage you to keep going in this direction since it’s a good one - participate as much as you can in the Workshops and also intersperse your anatomy studies with life drawings if possible and master copies either traditionally, digitally, or both. Will be checking in to see your progress, keep up the good work!
Nice studies you’ve got here SirRon!
The lower leg looks a bit too small on that army guy you’re working on, and the forearms look a bit too big. But Rebecca’s right, if you study anatomy and books like Figure Drawing for all it’s worth by Loomis(i’m studying this right now), it’ll help you tons.
quote for 100% agreement… quantity beats quality at the beginning…( i should do this too…but e-hem…)
your arm looks bit short, but quantity…quantity…and finishing look(<- which is i can not get it so far…)
good luck
Thanks everyone.
Rebecca: I see what you mean about individual crits. But if anyone sees something feel free to chime in as I fill this thread up.
Heyhey, I apologize if I’ve mentioned this before, but a book which I think you’d get loads out of is by Anthony Ryder:
His book can be found on his website:
Check out what Mu is doing with the book, which he loves:

I think Ryder lays out a very clear and good approach to drawing the figure and to drawing generally. I definitely recommend it!
