You are rocking various kasbahs with your progress Roberto!

These are really turning out great. I think the conte ones are still the strongest entries. Are you using construction lines? What’s your process of creating these? The straight on frontal view drawings seem a little off and could probably use more attention to angles of lines and negative space.

Roberto,

A few recommendations are to watch the axes of the eyes with these, and to slow down a bit with the shading. Try looking harder at the forms, and rendering more detail. Really scoop out the darker areas, and fully shade the image with consistent shading. I think when you work thoroughly with traditional media, you learn to slow down and notice more details of the form. Strive less for a finished drawing, and more for analysis when drawing.

I will take my time on my next drawing (a color one no less), after I finish my latest charcoal drawing.

Thanks

Roberto,

Nice job here, I think you might add a layer of black on top and reduce that layer’s opacity to perhaps 50%. Then create a new layer and continue to paint. Try using the Grayscale slider in PS, which can be accessed through the Color Palette. Try not to go too light for your pieces.

Cheers,

Thanks Rebecca!
I appreciate your comments and I will implement them in the next image I do.

Roberto,

Nice progress, again I’d recommend throwing a darker layer on top and fiddling with the opacity so that you don’t end up with a washed out / too light image. All the forms are nicely suggested but could really sculpted out if you have a full range of values.
