Hi…Richie…
Those are some GREAT little studies you have going on, …best feet and knee studies that I have seen in awhile. REALLY like your line, and technique for doing them. Beautiful work… :applause:
REALLY like that oil study also…looking forward to seeing where you go with oils…should be great…
Good to work small at first with oils…you will learn more that way, and won’t get stuck on one big painting in the process. I have hundreds of very small oil paintings. these are the the ones
that I learned the most from,…it is easier to experiment, when working small,…the fear of loseing something big is not there…
Be careful with your composing / composition…it is key to creating a great painting.
You want to have balance, but you don’t want the space to be devided up into equal sections, top, bottom ,sides ect…Always be aware of the negitive space around the central element in your composition, and keep it varied, as much as possible.
Watch your perpective also…make sure that your lines converge in the distance, to creat depth…ect. You might want to go to the library, and check out some of the great books they have on perpective…it can be complecated or simple, depending on how you want to use it…:scream:
Just saw your gesture drawings from Otis…FANTASTIC…:applause:
Looking forward to seeing more of your work and progress…really enjoyed this last group that you have posted…
TAKE CARE
Glenn

Hey Richie,

Cheers,

Im going to be taking slides of my work like early december so they can be ready to send mid december. Even though deadline is January 15 I think a little early is fine.

#89

ok December 6th is the day I take my slides. I dont think im gona include my digital paintings because I heard Ringling dosent like work from photos.
Think im done with this one.

#90

Good luck to you, Richie. You have some great stuff to show.

some crap sketches

#93

anybody know any good animal drawing books?

#94

First of all, nice oil portrait, only the shirt is a little wonky, if that’s the right word to say.
Well, anatomy studies are allways good. I see it’s after Bridgman’s book. Studying from it myself now. Great, great book!
About the animal anatomy, I heard about a thing like a book called something similar to “Animal anatomy for the artist”, which contains lots of animal’s muscles, bones and so on. Also, there’s Vilppu’s book on animal anatomy. Well, more likely how to draw them. If I’m not wrong, it’s called “How to draw animals”.
Good luck with your future studies and your own pieces

#95

Thanks for the great info on animal books Razz! this one looks great…

haha yeah the shirt is lacking but we had limited time with the model so i pretty much just did the face. I mean it is a portrait painting, lol.

#96

eh SVA wanted some cartoons since all of my portfolio was realistic and from observation.
so heres my first dabblings in cartoon characters. more stuff coming soon!

Oh and I got into SCAD! but its still just a back up school.

#97

just some more sketches

#98

Lovely stuff! There’s been definite improvement here and an increase in concentration since Otis, I think. Hope the college search is going well - I think I read somewhere you might consider going to a community college - that seems like a waste since you are really as interested in art as you are - though I think it’s best to do one’s academic subjects outside of an art school context (art school’s just have the academics for their accredidation, most of them are overpriced and full of crap).

Good luck and let us know where you end up going to school!

#99

Yeah I think I mentioned the community college thing at conceptart.org, but its really just a doubtful option if I dont get into Ringling…I would most likely attend SCAD though. But I dont know I prob would want to transfer to Cal Arts or Ringling if I went to SCAD so why pay the money for SCAD if im gona start over as a freshman at another school.
