Hey, that looks awesome! Frankly, I wish I had done something like that when I was in high school.
Hope you can participate, and if you can, of course, post!!
Cheers,

RISD has always had a good reputation, but I don’t know anything about their animation program.
Um…RISD is about the hardest school, not even art school, to get into in the country.

rblitz7,
Good to see your new work!
I think this is going very well so far. Some crits might be that you have a funny watermark thing going on on the cheek that is best fixed by using a 100% opacity and flow brush set to a medium hardness. Adding texture might also help to get rid of some of that. I would recommend slightly enlarging the eye and defining the nostril to a greater degree. As well I would recommend reevaluating the profile, particularly in the nose / lips area.
Otherwise, it looks like you’re on the right track here, and I look forward to an update!
Cheers,

Whew! just finished summer of art on friday and will have lots of pics scanned or photographed in next couple of days.

Alright here are my current best figure drawings from 7 classes each about 6 hours long.

…continued on next post…
…and some figure drawing homework

Illustration assignment
final sketch

completed painting

More figure drawing homework to come…
wow… your anatomy has drasticaly improved. so how long have you been doing this summer program? do you enjoy it?
rblitz7,
Fantastic to see your new work!
It looks like you’ve gotten a ton out of the life drawing sessions ~ that’s great! One thing I notice you’re doing is lengthening the legs relative to the upper body. That’s a common mistake, but it’s something you want to try to correct over time in your drawings.
Great work here, what’s the next step art~wise for you?
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Lute- Thanks so much man! the program was from July 5 through 28 and I absolutely loved the program, the time spent totally payed off.
Rebecca-lol, yes your the third person to tell me im lengthening the legs too much, including my instructor. I will definitely work on that in the future. The next step for me is completing my portfolio, which will contain about 15 pieces. (Ringling asks for 10 minimum, is 15 enough?) Ideally I want about 7 figure drawings, 2 pages of gestures, 2 self portraits, 1 digital piece, 2 still lifes, 1 master copy and maby a simple animation. I have mostly everything covered except the still lifes. Oh and Ringling starts accepting for 07 september 1! the deadline is January 15.

Ah, that sounds good.
I would say 15-20 pieces would be good ~ I wouldn’t aim for a specific number so much as only including your best work. Everyone always says that you are judged by your worst piece, so make every piece count.
Make sure to check with each school about what they want to see in a Portfolio, as each school is different. Looking forward to seeing what you include in your final Portfolio! Do they ask for completed pieces as well as life drawings?
Cheers,
~Rebeccak
Well Ringling basically says you could include anything (class assignments, drawings, paintings, crafts, sculpture, etc.) but at least half of your portfolio should consist of drawings from direct observation.
Richie,
great thread you’ve got here.
I’ll dig deeper into it when I get home (I’m at work)
heee - those skeletons make me laugh
I love that painting - I mean the subject is pretty gross when you think of it but I love the final look and colours in particular ![]()
Thanks Intervain!
yeah it is pretty gross when you think about it, we had to illustrate a persons life based on an obituary and my guy was a really strict college football coach who led his team to 3 college bowls. So figuratively he put all his heart into football and I just illustrated that literally.
alright heres a WIP acrylic self portrait ive been working on. just messing around with color mixing and what have you, keeping my artistic juices flowing.

I think i put eye highlight in wrong spot, and ears might be a tad big.
