Sketchbook Thread of Pandazdesuyo
Wewt! I had a random art vomit moment and this came up as an idea. I’ve seen the 7 deadly sins and 7 heavely virtues and such done and i guess this falls under a series of sorts but I don’t know how to classify it. I guess perhaps just like emotions or things that persuade people to do things. Anyway, this poped up and I’d really like to CG this. It would look really cool. But that probably won’t happen for a while due to the fact that I need a new tablet because my pen doesn’t work and also the tablet itself has a lot of dents and crap in it. So i’m saving up for a better one. anyway. feedback on idea, design, color, etc. blah.
about 45 minutes with colored pencils

If anyone has any tips on CGing with a mouse I’d really like to get this started.
pandazdesuyo,
Welcome.
Please do not paint much with a mouse, you will ruin your wrist - I highly encourage you to purchase a tablet if you plan on doing much digital painting (the cost of a tablet is worth it if you compare it to the cost of acquiring carpal tunnel syndrome) - I would encourage you to draw traditionally until such time as you can purchase a tablet.
You have a good start here. I would encourage you to explore representational art more than a stylized version of figurative art. Sketch from anatomy resources (they can be found in abundance in the References and Resources forum here) as well as from life and from master works. Do you currently take any life drawing classes? I would highly encourage it.
If you are planning on applying to art colleges in particular, one of the number one things that they look for is life drawings - be they drawings of models, self portraits, family, friends, pets, animals at the zoo, etc. Do as much representational drawing and painting as you can if you wish to apply to art schools. Check out the thread of rblitz7, who is a high school student recently accepted to a few different art schools for a lead on what to put in a Portfolio.
See the Anatomy Forum Guide to get you started on this forum. I look forward to seeing more of your work. Welcome to the community!
Thanks. I’m about 1/3 of the way towards purchasing my tablet. I am working more from life now and aiming away from the stylized type of art that I’m doing. I got a really good anatomy book as a give and I am working with that. I’m aslo looking around the anatomy section here to get hints. Thanks for your support and I’ll take your offer on doing a life drawing class. I think there are a few around where I live. Thanks. I’ll see you around.
Eric
That’s great, it’s good to hear that you may be taking a life drawing course.
It’s highly recommended as I mentioned, but if you can’t take life drawing, then I encourage you to do self portraits. Generally you will be the only person in your family willing to sit for as long as it takes to do a portrait.
But I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to draw and paint from life, especially for someone in high school.
Also I think that the preference for most art colleges is to see traditional work, I am not sure how accepting they are of digital work in a portfolio, but it is worthwhile to ask at individual schools to which you may be applying.
I’ll really look into it. I’ve wanted to take a life drawing class for a long time but never found any. There is a place near me called the Art Studen’t League where I take a lot of classes. I will check and see if they have any life drawing classes. I’m not too fond of self portraits, I’m usually too critical and then give up but I do need to face it and get past my vendetta against them. I know that is important to draw from life and since I’m almost out of high school, I can really mold my style and gain a lot of abilities at a young age. Thanks for your continued support.
Eric.
No problem, good luck with the school, I’m sure that even if they don’t offer life drawing / painting (which I would be surprised by) they can offer you a lead as to where you could take classes.
Still life drawings are also highly encouraged, but life drawings are #1.
Cheers
