Sketchbook Thread of Nox

Whatsup guys, I am 17 years old and currently in my second year of art classes at my high school (didnt learn a single thing last year) but I have only been doing it seriously for a few months now. Right now I’m looking at doing a illustration major in college next year (I’m a senior now).

I consider myself fairly good (for my amount of experience) at drawing things with a reference but anytime I try to do something purely out of my imagination the proportions and the general look come out wrong. So over this next year I’m going to try to improve my anatomy and general drawing skills.

Looking good, keep it up.

You’re definitely heading in the right direction, keep it up! I would suggest experimenting with different line work. You clearly know what forms you’re putting down, now work on cleaning them up with some nice solid strokes. It helps to put mental dots on the page at points of inflection, draw a clean stroke from dot to dot. You can use differing line weight to imply depth and shadow. It is something that I have been working on as well.

I would say something similar as that your line-work needs to have more confidence, its as if your outlines are hatch marks.
