Sketchbook Thread of killermachine

#321

Hey killer - I find it hard to step off into different races. I cannot seem to get ethnical features down right. I tried a photo reference of a black female once and kept screwing up her face. But I did alright on a master copy of Black Bashiba Warrior.

Yours looks alright to me, but she is a little cartoonish to tell.

yea shes more manga oriented. not realistic on face.
a speed paint for studying lighting

original image by jyoujo on deviantart

another speed paint with lighting as primary focus. i used a completly different approach while making this one, starting from blobs of paint to this.usually i go with lines. but i did some things in this which i’l try to incorporate in my regular art more.

pour some feedback please

Hi Amrinder…

Liking the approach used on the last figure posted…

Here is a link that may be useful to you on using SCULPTRIS…I went into more details of how to sculpt from a sphere…posted in my thread.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IRbEMuG16Y&feature=related

Keep going with the study of light, like in the approach you used in your last figure…That’s the method that will get you the best results in the end…
It’s easier to get the values, if you start with a mid toned canvas, or work from dark to light, starting out with a black canvas, or deepdeep almost black purple canvas.

New day so new post… :applause:
Im on a roll today!!

#328

Hey Amrinder…

I like that purple OGRE… Maybe some blacks and reds, and a varity of purple values, and complimentary yellows…might give it that extra punch, that will enhace and really make the image pop…

I forgot to mention to you about the ROTATE brush in SCULPTRIS…If you want to change the expression/emotion on that head that you started, …use that ROTATE brush in SCULPTRIS…Works great when you have it in symitry or not even…Just put it at the corners of the mouth, eyes, and the center of the brow ect…wherever the muscles contract/stretch to form the emotion/expression, and you can change the whole expession/emotion.
I used it on those first SCULPTRIS head studies I did the other day,…posted in my sketchbook thread,.page preceeding last page…check it out, will give you an idea of what i’m talking about, and might be very useful to you in your own studies also.
Just thought i’d mention it to you, just in case you hadn’t stumbled upon it yet…

Is this digital water color? I think the painting is coming along good. I also noted that the left leg near the bottom of the tibia is too skinny. I do not know how important that is to this piece. Keep up the good work.

#333

hey aggie,
no this is actually traditional stuff, previous one as well. some local brand watercolour cakes and sakura brush marker(thats why i cant change the leg problem). but that thin-ness is sarting to show alot in my works ,need to tweek it right and i wont mind it :stuck_out_tongue:

ok this creates a personal record!! iv finished a model in 3 days from scratch for the first time.
kept the nose very manga-ish since its a manga character. 4178 tris.

#338

Hey Amrinder :wavey:

Good to see you doing some 3d stuff…

On the Zsketching, you might try using a bigger brush size for the major muscle groups on the pelvis and torso,…like the chest muscles and buttocks ect. can be done with just a couple of big shapes…just a passing thought on my part that might be useful to you.

Good luck with the retopology…not my cup of tea…LOL… …Mandatory and useful for the animation end of things like you are going for, but not for the things that i’m after with my works…luckily… …It kind of reminds me of like knitting a sweater or something… …Maybe someday they will create a button you can push, and then the computer does it all for you…seems that they have figured out a way to make the computer do everything else so far, so maybe that is just the last thing on their list of to do’s…They like to torture people and prolong the agony I guess…:scream:
Anyway, keep up the steady progress,…Looking forward to seeing where it leads you to…
Take care Amrinder

I am trying to do something with my revy model in zbrush by making some normal maps BUT when i realised i cant use them without learning how to unwrap uv’s i lost motivation… so here it is so far, hopefully i’l finish it properly when i can do unwraps(im little lazy to go through all the basics :frowning: ).
