Sketchbook Thread of INTERVAIN - 2D/3D

#741

Thanks Intervain. Actually even though ZBrush is the first and most popular no doubt,
there’s also Mudbox and others coming up, like Silo 2.

All the brushing I do these days is Silo 2 beta, which has some really nice brushes imho
It doesn’t allow for very hi-res stuff like apparently the new ZB3 but it’s still possible to get nice results (the Silo forum has some nice stuff already imho)

I’d love to get into ZBrush sometime, had the demo for a long time even.
Let’s see how the new version behaves on my machine, that’s kind of getting a little old.
Might be doing some more work soon, don’t like staying away from it too long.

I’ll remember the tug might do the trick. Looking forward to seeing more of your hard work too.
I’ve been playing with Max biped too much these days (look, it’s ALIVE!!)

I can only write “wow”.

Serena - thanks very much

Roberto - thank you! I’m glad you like

Oh man I feel bad now… I was thinking to myself I’m not doing anything so my thread will just go down the list and hide for a while but you guys keep visiting, which is really great but still is putting me to shame! I need to start doing something again! I’ve been sooooo lazy lately :argh:

#745

Don’t feel bad Intervain, I don’t think it will die. I just discovered this thread and am very happy about it.

I remember you from the “50 Heads” thread which was eons ago. :wavey: You haven’t slowed down a bit. Your ZB muscle sketches are awesome. Hope to see more. I almost never use these smilies because I think they look totally silly, but…:buttrock:

#746

ekah - thank you for the kind words

well I have started working on a new sculpt a few days ago - making the base mesh so far… started sculpting only yesterday and hacked in the basic forms so not much there yet… That right hand hasn’t been touched yet so it looks weird I know… so do the pants - hehe rather bumpy at the mo :scream:

this character’s a bit more than just a female but I ain’t saying nothing now LOL… I still want her to have a more realistic body than your everage cg girl… there’ll be more folds and such…

anywho - here’s the start… hope you’ll like it - I will spend a bit more than a weekend on this one I promise

It does look like she would be able to get through life without severe back pain! ;)

I like the pose a lot. The back and forth across the body has a lot of interesting, and classic, angles. The sculpting already looks great to me, but I do have two questions.

Would the skin around the character left abdomen area have that much sharpness? I'd expect a bit of definition to be lost, becuase that side's skin is getting pulled while the other side folds. It looks really cool though, so I guess it's more of a theory question then something to worry about.

The other things are about the pants, and I know it's early days with them. With the body posture I expected the (character left) knee to line up with the foot and not face forward (that could be an illusion from the camera angle, it might already be doing that, but I'm having trouble reading it). The character right lower pantleg seems to follow the shin strongly and it's hard to find the motivation for that -- as it gets a bit baggy again at the ankle.

Looks great to me, you've got me hooked to see where this goes already, amazing how much you can get down in a few days :). Not sure if you've put much effort into the feet yet, but they already look good, the nice curves on the smaller toes, and secondary detail already running up the foot.

Great start

Intervain, great start! More than a weekend you say, well then from what I’ve seen what you do in a weekend this will be impressive looking.
I think it’s still early stages to crit and I couldn’t say anything more than Kary already did.
Ok, I forgot where I found THIS stock, but take a look, I believe you’ll like it. I hope I didn’t find it on your thread here, though it might be so, hehe. Forgive my memory then.

#749

kary - thanks a lot! You’re right the leg looks rather weird …

razz - Awesome link! THanks a ton… got me change that idea a tad actually

well I worked on the upper part of the body a tiny bit more… put her in xsi to see all the faults more clearly [sheesh so many  - that left breast is driving me nuts and so is the right arm and the jaw and so on and so on!] … here’s a quick render of the faulty madam :scream:

ahh… still the beginning so lots to correct and if you see more shout!

#750

Hey Magdalena! I can tell this is gonna be top-notch! …that is, if you dont leave it off in the middle! One quick crit… the lower half of the leg is short… remember that if you bend your knee all the way, you heel will hit your butt right at the centre. Awesome stuff! keep it up!

#751

It would take me a lot longer to get this far. Your kicking my tuckus in speed. She is not based on you? As for folds, your going to have to get rid of those abs there for that. Also it might have been too early to give her pants, since she may need more fat on her legs if she is supposed to be realistic proportions. That will change how she fits in the pants of course too.

#752

anandpg - hehe! right you are! I hope I’ll finish it… ehem… the sculpting at least

Womball - me?! I think not… though I wouldn’t be surprised if she does have some features similar… I’ve noticed everyone tends to do that… we tend to like the people who look a bit like us

well - I changed the idea a bit… she’s going to be just a woman after all… I do like her in this pose [haven’t worked the legs much yet and the skirt needs to look loose - now it’s stiff as hell… but I just placed it there to give you an idea of what I’m after]

and a zbrush capture

I think I can move on to details now… on all the parts…

#753

the skirt does look better! The fast and easy way to get base deformation of it woud be to run a cloth sim in your 3d package and then work from that. btw, did you create it (the skirt) in Zbrush or imported it?

also, from this perspective it looks like it couldn’t stick to her left leg like this, would most likely fall down, don’t you think?

I like the girl very much, looks “real”, not too skinny, or idealized. Great work!

-ivan

#754

yeah it would hang down that’s what I ment by saying it’s too stiff now - I haven’t worked on it yet :scream:… so well spotted there

cloth sim will look ok but there’s too much setup to make it work nicely with the hand holding the dress + the deformations will work only on high density mesh which is unpractical and it always stretches in weird directions and I couldn’t be bothered LOL… I have more control by just modeling and sculpting it, I think

#755

started hacking in the shapes of the legs - they’re still rather wonky :scream:

#756

Magdalena, she is lovely so far! It’s great to see more of your awesome work!

#757

Wow! this is gonna be gorgeous!!:bounce:

#758

Lookin’ lovely so far. The skirt is a less sexy look then the shirtless jeans, but given that sexy is not what you’re shooting for (with a CG sculpt, gasp) it works ;). Never having dipped into my inner Scotman enough even try a kilt: Is the very deep U shape on the skirt a little unusual? Seems like it’s ‘grabbing’ at the very top of the curve and falling very loose to the front, and with that looseness I’d expect the sides a bit lower.

The only other thing I’m wondering about is the arm pit area. I expected there to be a bit more definition there, but looked up a similar image and:

[left]The arm pit is as you have it, but there is the pectoral wrapping over the bicep. Although the woman above might be getting some plastic assistance up front she’s more or less a natural weight so I wondered if similar wrapping should be in your sculpt. Of course it might not apply because the angle we’re looking at doesn’t show it, or because the above girl is reaching further back on her head then your sculpt.

Gonna take a stab at a sculpt myself this week, if I can get to the point you’re at already I think I’d be satisfied. You’ve rolling it out as impressively as usual

#759

thanks very much guys

kary thanks for the tip  - I was actually looking at my own armpit LOL… the pose I have is a tad different than that in the picture but it was still off I agree - corrected it a bit… will still work it more

didn’t have too much time - just remodelled the skirt in xsi, no sculpting on it yet… the idea is ‘morning’ - so I want her to look like she’s enjoying the sun or something, having just got up…

ok here’s where we’re at - tons more to do

#760

great stufff again!
