OMYGOD… OMYGOD… I AM DYING OUT HERE…!
Sketchbook Thread of INTERVAIN - 2D/3D
Ok guys - I found this info about zbrush 3 which answers some of your questions and it’s what’s been posted officialy by the pixologic team [learn to read ya’ll
]… I’ve been looking around since I really want to buy my own version of that software… can barely afford it but I’m really tempted… I can starve for a few months LOL
adding real-time shadows, real-time material capture and render (MatCap), full 3D sculpting and texturing with alphas and textures, advanced digital clay with up to one billion polygons using HD geometry, real-time posing with ZBrush’s Transpose functionality, perspective camera, 2D / 2.5D /3D mesh projections, mesh retopologizing, topology/cavity/color based maskings, one-click turntable recording and quicktime export, support for 32 and 64 bit systems, mutithreaded support for up to 256 processors, and more
256 processors… lol. For some reason I wind up thinking about how you would have to plan a building’s air conditioning per work station
Beautiful works in the last pieces
It doesn’t look like monsterous is your home genre, but that is a very credible first shot from my pov, and having it done in a day… hats off. The old lady painting is really nice, maybe losing a few years in the last versions, but there was some added polish too. Bit of a balancing act, but seeing how fast/far your 2d is progressing is inspiring. The first ZB3 model is sweet. I’d agree on the nose (I’m used to an eye ridge to bottom of nose size and this doesn’t go that high), but really nice.
kary… I must admit I’m surprised by the way that nose looks from the front myself… I think it’s partly the shader’s fault because it really is not that straight and narrow all the way down  … weird…
well just a simple study/sketch this morning… to jump start the day… couldn’t get her shoulders right for the world of me

I assume the last one was done with Photoshop, mm?
Did you try the new Realbristle brushes? They look very nice. I didn’t have a chance to try them out very well, but from some scribbling they seem to be great. Zhuzhu posted a painting done with those brushes some time ago, if you haven’t seen it, be sure to find it (or I’ll post you the link here if you wish, but school’s tomorrow and I have ~150 pages of the book to read, so not today).
But really, we use what’s best for ourselves, so just keep rocking with ps!
The sculpted monster looks awesome! How many polys? Oh, I liked the bronze material of the girl in you portfolio much more than this red one, though it might be that it’s only the color that’s different.
Hey Intervain, great first monster! I really like what you did with the ears, very bat like
You said you referenced it from a sculpture? Do you remember the name of it or the sculptor? I’m not too knowledgable about all the monster sculptors out there.
I never feel like I can comment on paintings since I’m not very strong at colour, but I will say you nailed the pose and proportions
So can you say what your favourite new features/tools of Zbrush 3 are yet? Or do you need more time to explore?
hey
been doing some really awesome work
keep it up
monster- creature from the black lagoon?
Mark
razz - Painter is so slow - it cannot handle big brushes too well… drives me nuts
Oh I never check how many polys LOL - no idea… The material on the girl’s actually the same I just changed the colour balance in photoshop
plunq - thanks! Glad you like. The sculpture was by Alex Oliver! It’s not entirely true to the original I fear
btw - if you’d like to take a look at more toy’ish fanbased, moster sculptures and the like I sincerely recommend this site - http://thesculptorscorner.com/- wicked stuff! Check out Mark Newman, his work’s amazing!
I love the traspose tool - my gosh I so hate rigging and this is just a perfect solution for me
Also the flatten brush rocks… the regular brush is really more precise I feel - allows for more details than that of the older zbrush! Pinch is a treasure - glad they finally did that… Oh … stencils
the detail they give is fantastic and the extracting works nicely though I didn’t need it yet - just tried everything LOL… i SIMPLY LOVE IT!
FateBringer - thanks
Oh that one was more fishy
I actually feel it looks a tad like Dracula in his batty version…
ahh, yes i can see that now, i also forgot that CFBL has gills on his neck, opps
awesome, makes me wish i could do 3d
Mark
realtime 3d stencils are in version 2 yet I couldn’t figure it out. I guess they are simpler to use in zbrush 3. I’m waiting for zbrush 3 so I can use that transpose function on that anatomy study. Hehe! And see what I can do with 10 million polys, which probably isn’t that much anymore.
Hey Magdalena! thanks for all the info on ZB3:drool:… they already had the “Pinch” brush in ZB2, right? … or is it different now?
You’re on fire woman!
I love the female bust sculpt (I kind of prefer the red one myself :D) and the sketches are inspiring! Mild crit on the older woman (who bears a bit of a resemblance to Cloris Leachman - lol) is that the hands are a bit stiff. But great to see the amount of work you’re doing - great stuff!
thanks guys
Rebeccak - hehe… yeah very little fire
I agree about the old woman’s hands and I am ashamed to say I had to check to see who Cloris was - never heard of her before
well here’s a tiny thing I’ve started a couple of days ago and hope to finish over the weekend… will be employing zbrush so I’ll be posting it on the beta forum once I begin the process probably…
that’s mostly still a base mesh and I want your opinion on that
… I’m hoping to make her look like a bronze sculpture rather than a realistic human… don’t want a real one … I may try colouring her though - she’s stylized nonetheless - hece the overly long legs ;)… those are some overpaints of ideas but it just occured to me to give her the 80-s classy tiny shorts instead of that skirt and perhaps the classic walkman LOL… she’ll definitely have more gadgets - what do you think?!

This pose is waaaaaaaaaay too subtle and almost a mirror pose. Even with a ton extra stuff it won’t help the pose. Get some contraposta going to give her some weight. Its best if you can draw a flowing curve line that travels from the head to the back leg, one should probably be lifted into the air. Maybe one arm in front too so you would have to deform the clavical a bit.
You have to balance yourself when rollerskating (not as much as rollerblading though) so your probably going to have to act it out, or get someone to act it out.
funny you should say that - I actually did reference the pose and I do like it myself  I guess you’re one of them squishy and stretchy animator fellas LOL… well maybe I will give her more swishinesss then…
Hi again
long time since I popped in to see what you’re up to… flying along you are
lots of great work! and exciting to see even a dash at a monster from you
When I first saw your “old” woman I had to scroll to see her whole face - I saw her forhead, eyes and half nose first… I placed her age at maybe late 40’s - a “hard-knocks” late 40’s… To me, there’s something about her jawline and mouth that don’t quite match the rest of her face… the missing teeth are fine, it’s more the tightness of her jaw. Somehow deeper lines around her mouth into the chin area - not sure how old you wanted her to look, but even a younger woman, who’s lived a hard life, would have deep lines around her mouth… Also adding a bit of a shadow at the bridge of her nose would add form to the nose and place the eyes back a bit.
I know you’re finished with her, I really like the look in her eyes, and love the colours, so couldn’t help commenting
Be interesting to see where you take the roller-girl… will she be swishy (with crash-helmet firmly on head) or will she just have finished her swishy moves, posing for the crowds - or something entirely different?
enjoyable to see - you keep creating girl
a.
Hey Intervain, great start to the roller skate girl. Have you checked out the movie Roll Bounce for inspiration? Maybe a bit more old school than you were thinking but check out that radio!
Can’t wait to see where you take her!

Frejasphere - thanks a lot for the kind words and crit
I agree about the old - or not so old LOL - lady
Joel - thanks
Didn’t know that film! I like that head gear!
well 2 little zbrush beta thingies… both from the same mesh as the draco thing
haha - one more monstrosity… just experimenting… less then a day for each so not that much done…

lol spruced the second guy up a bit in photoshop - for fun really… [I guess I have to get that life LOL ;)]

Hey woman - you should really think about running a ZBrush Workshop here on the Anat Forum
- if you have the time or inclination, write up a Workshop based on some of the past ones and send me your thoughts by email - rebeccak4@gmail.com
- I think it would be terrific if you are interested! ![]()
