Re: The Birdie. I like the nonplus/blank expression of the base mesh, makes a contrast to ol’ Sarge. You always need a straight man in a double act :o)
Sketchbook Thread of INTERVAIN - 2D/3D
Oh rofl, that was like the fig leaf ala classic Adam and Eve… whoosh right over my head. How I did not pick up on that with “WTF! I’m nekkid!” is beyond me ;). I was thinking of him holding an olive branch of peace, not ‘covering his shame’ ;)… eh well I’m even slower then normal after midnight I guess ;).
Going with the Pixar bird style feet will be great, and (since you have a longer body on your bird) that pose will read even better then it does in theirs… rock solid imo
was inspired by the subject matter of the character in a fortnight workshop -
grotesque seemed tempting so I though I’d scribble something … here’s a start - don’t know where I’ll go with this one, we’ll see… I’m totally sick of the soldier and completely uninspired to continue with it… meh… anyway - my flirty chick

well a little more doodling… I’ve used refs for the hands placement - I mean how you intertwine those fingers and for where the wrinkles are… other than that it’s all in my head which probably shows LOL… anyway - here it goes - oh and she’s starting to stray away from grotesque and is becoming quite a cute old grandma instead 0_o… ergo: I don’t do grotesque

You know it’s just amazing to me how far you have come in 2d.(I looked through your thread again the other day). Really and truly inspiring stuff, and I love the old lady, she’s sweet.
In the previous update it looked more like an unattractive old guy, now it’s a pretty old lady, got better really
Great seeing you continue with your 2d stuff. It is getting better and better.
About the 3d piece you’re doing, there’s something I don’t like about the bird. He seems too realistic compared to the army guy. You should’ve painted/drawn a concept for him too. Those pixar birds are really a great example. Though it might be just me.
Good luck on the piece, Magdalena!
Samanthie - thank you for the kind words! I’m glad there’s some progress visible
razz - I agree with you about the bird 100% actually… it’s not just you
I’m sick and tired of it and not going on… that’s final LOL… I think I’ll add some stuff to the soldier’s bust and keep it at that! we’ll see… I keep changing my mind so often that I might still do it
here’s a little more on the old lady…

one more tiny update - I’m having tons of fun with her… coming up with things as I go along… the mastercopies now come in very handy indeed… it’s cool to apply the approach that I use in 3d too - just using references for parts of the image and putting it all together myself using the imagination rather than using a picture of a particular person… lot’s of painting and overpainting but this one’s mine YAY
thought I’d give her one of those veils ladies in Italy wear in church…

Magdalena…WOW…:bounce: …REALLY LIKE THAT LAST UPDATE ON THE OLD WOMAN…BEAUTIFUL JOB THERE…![]()

Glenn
Thanks Glenn - glad you like
well some experiments with the colour wash - the b&w is yet far from being finished but I wanted to play around anyway
oh is it me or is she getting younger by the hour?

Magdalena…
…Don’t rejuvinate her too much, or she will lose that look of wisdom that only comes of age,…with age …
I really like the lighting and color in this one…captures the esentual, and leaves room for the imagination to capture the unesentual…GREAT JOB.![]()

Glenn
hehe I don’t want her young either… made some changes in b&w - but I’ll show ya the colour anyway ;P… might be last one today since I’ve been putting my tax return matters off for wayyyy too long. darn the very thought makes me sick

well I’ve chosen the colour scheme and I’m working in colour from now on…
stil avoiding the hands…don’t have any good refs, just will use my own I guess… I have to get to them because I really want to paint that opal ring
hope you like [hmmm her eyebrows make her look like an old Marlene Dietrich LOL :

Good decision on the color scheme! I like it better then previous ones. Seeing this painting technique again, going from b&w to color, I remember that I have a Satyr to finish painting!
Give the old lady some teeth, lol
Great work overall, and the face is completely from imagination? I think you should’ve left those folds around here eyes. Oh, but really liking this one! Keep rocking, Magdalena!
Thanks razz
well depends what you mean entirely from imagination
She is not a copy of any picture woman - I did reference the wrinkles separately, the eye shape separately and the hands separately etc… so she’s like a puzzle but all in all yes, she’s from my head… the colours are mostly from the masters - I was looking at Hals and Rembrandt in particular
I call this weekend project done - she’s gone way further than I though she would anyway…

Great job on the old woman. I really like the palette you chose to work with, but you have to get back to the soldier! It would be a shame if you just stopped working on him after all the time you already put in. My 2 cents is you should have soom pigeon poop dripping down the soldiers helmet (gotta watch those damn pigeons! :))
Hey Magdalena!! thats an awesome portrait! love the coloring.
Just one little crit… I feel the left(our left) eye is some 2mm above the level of the right eye.(compare the inner corners)
As you know, and as we always say it, it’s great… but I just prefer a little bit when the details was less finished and when the colors was less contrasted… at this time, the mood was stronger, and this woman more mysterious, with certainly much secrets and knowledge behind her :D… in any case, the result is fantastic, especially with no precise references… BRAVO Magdalena…
