Sketchbook Thread of INTERVAIN - 2D/3D

#361

CyborgJA - thanks so much  I really appreciate it coming from you!

just a quick one today so you don’t say I’m completely slacking off LOL - ehem… I don’t even like robots  Oh well this came out so there - I liked the idea of giving it a primitive bow instead of a supersonic gun  A hunter:

#362

I just scrolled down this whole thread, and I must say that I am impressed, both by your 2d and 3d. the master copys are impressive, the sketches are nice.
nothing to crit actually. The last sketch looks a bit static, but its a nice concept with the bow.
Nice thread, keep going plz!

Cyanid thank you very much! I agree it looks more than a little stiff… Hehe following Womball’s suggestion I’ve been doing some sketches of more dynamic poses in my sketchbook and I really wanted to make him less stiff but it still came out that way… I guess it’s some internal break  I must just drive through that wall I guess with a bang… I’m kinda shy with poses… no flare LOL

#364

quick study from Sheppard - no scanner so I tried to draw it in photoshop with a tad of a different approach - not entirely successfull - oh well…

#365

Hi…Magdalena…

I was wondering if you have Burne Hogarth’s…DYNAMIC FIGURE DRAWING book, if not, I think it is just the thing to put the zing in those figures you are creating from imagination…everything from A to Z, in the ways to make your figures really come alive …deep space forshortening,
rythems in the figure creating motion, overlapping shapes ect…all the tricks and techniques that
the old masters used and perfected, to creat really dynamic figures, is all in that one book…a must book, for what you are going for I think.
Will really make creating figures from your imagination easier, and funner, once you understand the tried and proven to work principles that he explains and demonstrates in that one book…

Hi Glenn  Thanks for popping by!

Yes I do have all of Hogarth’s books - will go back to that one now for sure … I’m not too keen on his way of drawing but still, a good lesson nonetheless…

ehem… A study from Sheppard again but I got carried away a bit LOL,

#367

HEY…Magdalena…
REALLY like those last two…cold to hot…:scream:
About Hogarth…I for one, have never copied any of his works. His style served his taste and needes, not mine, and was unique to him, but the PRINCIPLES
that he taught, were and are universal, and can be applied to any style that you develope or choose…It’s mostly in the reading of the books he wrote,… that’s where the learning is found…his drawings are just there to confirm what he wrote, they are not meant to be imatated.
That can become a trap, that can cause you to loose your own style, before you have had a chance to develope IT…IT’S like music… sounds better when everybody doesn’t sound the same…:scream:
Just trying to save you alot of frustration, and lead you in a good direction, as you start to creat your own figures, from your own imagination…Strive for uniqueness, if you dare,… just as he did…

oh! these are cool!
You know, I tried out Dr. Bones’ method of drawing figures from imagination… its working out well!.. Draw a box and an egg in perspective in some random direction (to represent the pelvis and the rib-cage respectively) and build a figure from it… You will come across some amazing poses you wouldnt even have thought of drawing! I try to do as many of them as I have time for… real good exercise!!

#369

Uhm, I’ll buy this book too !

I love the blue one even if it’s only a quick sketch !

#370

thanks very much guys!

Glenn - good tip!

well it’s -23 celcius [shivers] here so I’m kinda procrastinating instead of getting up and just leaving for work :scream: still I’ve decided to procrastinate in a useful fashion so it’s time not entirely wasted, 2 more studies from Sheppard

#371

hey

grumble, grumble (looking for Dictionary) it,s to early for such a big word.

cool sketches

Hey Magdalena, fellow Trevor drool Eve fan … some lovely work in this thread, and your OFDW piece was just mind blowing, especially seeing the little animated gif of the dress. Wow. Admire your patience. Your figure studies with the larger brushes are definitely some of my favourites, the black and white nude kneeling with her back to us in particular. And for digital sketches these last few pieces have some real life to them, which can hard to get, even with a wacom. I also really like your bold approach to background colour and colour in your figures, makes me rethink me own work! Great stuff!

#373

Keep rockin’ girl!

#374

Mark - thanks

Zephyri - thank you  I really appreciate it!

Rebeccak - thanks for popping by!

I’m too tired to do anything today  but here’s a simple Bouguereau study to make me feel like I have done at least one useful thing

#375

Hey Magdalena,

nice studies.
About your hunter. She (or he?) is wearing a metal suit?
If so, check out how ZhuZhu handles metal in this post

I’m not too fond of Sheppard but I think you handle his style very well

#376

Please, polish your angel cause is SO beautiful !

#377

And I vote you continue that green study!

Made me feel as if I had forgotten how beautiful a colour green is! Greeeeen…mmm yummy!

did I just say that…?

#378

The last study after Bouguereau looks fantastic! Yes, it can be just a quickie, but it’s a great start. The forms flow beautifully.
Those other monochromatic studies look good too. I like you getting carried away a bit
I’ll second CyborgJA for you to polish the Bouguereau study :bounce:

#379

Your anatomy thread popped up on the radar and I ventured in to see great stuff. I am jealous of your work. You make it look so easy. I wish I could once make something look as good as your loosest sketch. Thanks for the visuals.

#380

aww thanks guys for your kind responses  Really make me try harder!

Johan - oh I do know how Zhu can do his metal shiney - I still can’t  sigh… must try harder…

CyborgJA - Oh I’m glad you like but I didn’t save the psd file and anyway I did draw it at this resolution… hmmm… I might try though…

Mu - cheers! LOL green - I happen not to like it too much, can’t really explain why I’ve picked that colour

razz - oh you’re too kind

aggie93 - so are you! WAY too kind! I am only learning still and when I see the sketches of someone like zhu I’m depressed  - thankfully it also makes me sit down and try harder so it’s only good to be in those forums! Just practice - it does makes you better!

quick study from Sheppard  btw in response to what Johan said - I find it interesting how different people enjoy different books on drawing - I love sheppard’s sketches most of them all I think, next to Bridgeman and Loomis while not being too fond of Hogarth… hmm… wonder why that is
