Abby - thank you very much! glad you like the hat

ha-dou-ken - cheers! I’m glad you like them :bounce:

razz - aww thanks! Yeah I think I want to try and work on some imaginary stuff now that I know there’s hope I’ll actually draw something that makes sense and is not just a splodge of paint… fingers crossed

Kosmaty - aw! Thanks. hehe - nie ma problema

#342

well a quick 20 mins brainless sketch [no refs or anything, just my hand working, brain turned off… ;)]- I just really liked the light, etheral feel of it so I let it be after a short time…

#343

Wow! great doodles, Magdalena!! post more of them!

#344

thanks Anand - well when I have more  LOL I only just started doing those… quite a cool way of relaxing… just letting your wacom pen do something in photoshop while you watch it develop… I remember Carlos Huante mentioning it on his Gnomon DVD but I was always sceptical… I believe him now, it does work [only not all the time LOL]

#345

i’m thinking, wouldn’t it be a good idea if you take some concept that has been laying around for a while (if you have one you really like) and turn that into a fully rendered painting…?

You could show us your talent for portraiture as well as for painting again

What you say?

#346

Hej, nice doodles! :)
I love what you did with her hair in your latest sketch

Want to see more!

#347

Johan - I do like the idea and I’ve been thinking about it but I feel I won’t pull it off yet… :frowning: not enough practice I think…

Bapke - thanks  glad you like!

well I am quite excited becasue I was just browsing the website of Morgan Weistling who is definitely one of my favourite modern artists and here’s what has to say about the beginning of his painting process:

At this point, I am looking at shapes and painting them as I see them regardless of what they are. I call this “painting with an empty head”. The more I think about what I am painting, the more likely I will veer off the track.

hAHA - YAY! I knew I wasn’t entirely in the dark forest  :bounce:

#348

another no brainer - are there underwater elves?! LOL well there might be… [there are merepeople ;)]
no refs… i was playing around with values basically… HURRA FOR THE HSB slider in photoshop… :arteest:

#349

one more - I looked at one of Bougereau’s paintings to get the proportions right [it’s not a copy mind you  - link to the ref] - the colours are obviuosly different though I think I went overboard with the contrast at the end… so purple :wink: … I find it fascinating how much colour you can actually stick in the painting and still make it look like a body and not a suit… having fun with photoshop yet again :arteest:

#350

So true!:wise: Its great to see you experimenting so much with colors and tones. I am ordering my Wacom this month (finally!:D)… I hope to try and do a little bit of what you are doing!

#351

Hi Magdalena

Popped in to see your latest work  and congratulate you on wonderful QFDW pieces! :applause:

I like these elfish “merpeople” fantasy sketches, like Rebeccak was saying: more emotion in these looser quicker ones! The colours are great too, my favourite is the one you call the underwater elf… the eyes (or no eyes…) haunting, yet so intriguing

Take care and big pat on back!

a.

#352

Anand - thanks very much

Anette - thank you hugs I needed a pat on the back  Feels good  Those eyes came out that way somehow and I must say I’m pleased about their opaque and watery feel! look like some sort of membrane…

well I’ve started working on my personal project now and being me it’s a little much for one project but I’m determined to see it through… I’ll probably show you some shots in later stages and hope you’ll help me out with things as well… for now I’m off

I also got my load of col-erase pencils in the post at last [my gosh, they WILL last me a lifetime ] so I hope to do some sketching as well…

#353

a quick brainless sketch - don’t know what I wasn’t thinking

edit: just noticed I’ve saved that jpeg at a really low and crappy level… apologies for all that pixelation…

#354

You’re so prolific, Magdalena!

Really liking your flow of so-called brainless sketches!

(Caught your photo post… great smile!)

#355

Thanks YMS - not prolific enough LOL I am trying to apply myself and do something every day after seeing how practice is paying off… :arteest: and it’s also quite enjoyable to just draw without looking at something… I know this screwes up the anatomy hehe… oh well… I guess I need to do those now, feel like it…

[and thnx ]

last one before sleep - very quick… Queen Bee I guess… :scream:

#356

Thanks for showing these Magdalena
it motivates me to keep going and going (right now when I do something from imagination… nothing at all comes out, meaning I just need a lot more practice)

That queen bee is lovely!

#357

Oooh, I love Bouguereau! He’s the best figurative painter ever existed, in my humble opinion :scream: Sure a master to study from.
And good to see you continued painting those imaginational pieces. Try pushing one or two to a bit more than a speedpaint

#358

I R back and it seems you have been rather productive. You might want to consider doing studies of dynamic poses. Some of your imaginary stuff has very stiff poses which detract from the overall beauty of the pieces. The girl with the knife is basically a mirror pose (both sides are doing the same thing) which is a no no. Also study lines of action which are long flowing lines that go from the head to the toes and are curved. Combing both you will have a very strong foundation for a composition. The movement of the pose could probably be strong enough to stand on its own if framed properly.

#359

NR43 - thanks

razz - I agree about Bougereau - and hey you’ve spelled it - wrong mind you but - you’ve actually gave it a shot :scream: LOL It has taken me aaages to learn that spelling

Womball - hell yeah! That’s what I love about your comments - constructive and helpful :bounce:. I agree about those poses being stiff and symmetrical! Will apply myself to dynamic poses some more from now on. Cheers!
