Hi Magdalena! the face looks really sweet… afew crits though…
The nose looks a tad bit wide to me…
right side of the jaw could do with a little curvature…
and the left eye seems to me to have slid down a little bit…
I flipped the picture just out of curiosity… hehe…

Hi Intervain. Well, I decided to flick through your thread before making my dinner… now I’m famished! All just awesome, inspiring amazingness. I can’t say anything that hasn’t been said before, but I would like to big up your very first Rubens study, lady from the back unfinished. Such utterly beautiful colours & tones, and sometimes I just love the energy of an unfinished piece like this one (maybe it’s just me).
Thanks for your encouragement on my thread, BTW. I’m using your rapid progress in everything you try as a beacon (if that’s ok by you). Cheers.
Johan - lol, now there’s an idea… I’m blonde though, not sure those colours will suit me
Anand - damn, that’s exactly what I needed! That jaw especially - I knew there was something wrong with it but couldn’t put my finger on it! THANKS for taking your time to do that - that’s really helpful!:bounce:
holdensc -
awww… too kind by far! I really REALLY appreciate your taking the time to flick through my little thread! THANKS VERY MUCH for your kind words
HEY…Magdalena…
:bounce: :applause:
YOU SHOULD PLAY MORE OFTEN…
The painting has more depth, room to breath, and that ONENESS, some of YOU in it now…
Now when I see it, I am drawn to the BEAUTY of her face first, which should be the focal point,… instead of the BEAUTY of her dress, which should come second…
The use of lighting is crucial, to directing the viewers eye to where it is that you wish it to go.
You are the lighting directer, and you put my eye in the proper place for this kind of painting…the face…
FANTASTIC JOB…Magdalina…
:applause:
TAKE CARE
Glenn
thanks Glenn ! I especially appreciate that compliment since I always sucked with lighting both in 3d and 2d
ok I’m done with this one, I think
Anyway I’ve had enough of it… I’ve changed the face a tad to look more like the original but not too much
I probably wouldn’t be able to get her likeness anyway
I also made some touchups to the first OFDW piece. So here are my 2 final images - pheww… don’t know if I’ll finish the 3d one [Anand’s awesome work is making me want to got back to it…]

Really nice job Intervain!
That pink dress…just…wow, really stands out! I mean it looks so satiny and shiny, and I think I already commented on that, but it’s done really well
:bounce:Well the swirly designs and the shading on these satin dresses is fabulous:thumbsup:
And Magdalena…You need to edit this now
I’ll be posting mostly 3d work
I’ll try to put some 2d stuff in here too, though I feel oblidged to warn everyone - I suck at paiting LOL
Beautiful!.. beautiful!
… You should be proud!!
Glenn is right… now the focus is where it should be… on the beauty of her face.
Roja - thanks very much again! Really appreciate it
Gord - thanks :)
CgIcecube - :) not yet ;)
Anand - aww thank you :D and thanks again for your help :)
2 quick studies just to get over the pedantic detail painting :D - an anatomy study [ca. 40mins] and an 1,5 hrs or so long study from one of my all time fav painters that I just worshipped since the time I discovered an album of his work in my parents' library as a child - Vasily Ivanovich Surikov.
note to self: will paint with smaller brushes - I just can't force myself to make'em small hence total lack of detail in this one... I like a big circle on my screen I guess :scream:

Simply gorgeous work on the two 2D master copies - really love the 2nd, with the pink dress especially - your brushtrokes seem perfectly confident!
Also enjoying this looser study - much more emotional feel to this work. It would be really interesting to see you do a full composition, with full figures - maybe a modern fairy tale. I bet you could really push the envelope, both on your modeling / painting ability and on your narrative sensibility as well.
Thanks Rebeccak!
I wish I had the courage to do that. I have tons and tons of ideas but I just could not paint these things without reference… I mean I’d need a model for my own purposes
Well I’m doing the pre-production to a 3d illustration now so hopefully I’ll start working on it this upcoming week…
oh I also need that damn scanner… sigh… I made a funny purchase today - a whole load of col-erase pencils on ebay [will last me a century ;P] since i just cannot buy them anywhere here in Montreal. I went to several art stores and they didn’t have those ones anywhere. I simply cannot sketch with anything other than a col-erase blue pencil
in the meantime a little gif to show the painting of the dress since I did save all those stages…maybe it’ll be helpful [or ot ;)]

Lol about the col erase - I’ve never used them, but they seem really popular, and hard to find.
Great to hear about the 3D illustration! That should be awesome to follow.
If you get the chance, would love to see you put together a Tutorial / Step by Step similar in layout to this one for one or both of your 2D Ingres studies - I’ve sort of neglected to ask folks to do these for the past OFDWs, but they certainly are helpful.
Cheers!
yeah - I just so got used to them - they have just a perfect hardness for me - probably if I wanted I’d find something instead but I’d have to go through a whole load of pencils before that
I did buy black ones of different types but most of them are way too soft and I’d have to erase constantly to get the drawing right … with those I get very, very light lines with my initial gestures so I can just go over them
I love that!
anyway - I’ll see if I can make a useful tutorial [I’ll try :)]… meanwhile a little Bougereau study since I am going to use him as a reference for my project… So I’m staring at his paintings now - a pleasure I assure you! …

so I was just doodling in photoshop in a completely brainless manner - basically there was nothing in my head… blank
and this guy sort of came out [I didn’t use any references or anything, well apart from the newspaper texture]… don’t ask me why he’s wearing a newspaper hat either LOL
I kinda like him though it’s just a half an hour doodle… I guess I’m learning if I’m starting to make doodles like this one :bounce:

Magdalena, beautiful job with the painting, she came out fantastic! Oh, and I like the newspaper hat
Abby
Hey Magdalena! your OFDW entries are BEAUTIFUL! :applause:I can’t believe how the clothing came out. Congratulation, all your hard work payed off ten fold.:bounce:
Damn, you’re amazing. These last two - wow. I love the guy whose study you did and whose surname I can’t spell! Here, it’s William, easier to write
Now, after seeing this lats imaginational piece, I think I’m gonna make you do more of those! Imaginational work is something we all must do and practise a lot, that’s something for myself too.
Still can’t believe how much work you’ve put into those two OFDW pieces.
wow your OFDW is truely great! The detail… looks professional!
Good job on that
