Thank you Glenn

well I consider the b&w version almost finished … I think… I’m tired of it though I know it’s waaaay away from being perfect… I’ll still correct some things… if there’s anything that’s annoying you let me know!

oh and I cheated a tad with the wall - I did use a pattern for the wallpaper  couldn’t be bothered with them flowers

#302

Nice!
You nailed the dress prefectly.

#303

HEY…Magdalena…

I haven’t seen the original, but yours looks beautiful and perfect to this viewer…:applause:
IN THE END, …BEAUTY AND PERFECTION, IS ALL IN THE EYE OF THE BEHOLDER…
TAKE CARE
Glenn

#304

Thanks guys! Good thing you’re not putting both side by side LOL - then you’d see the difference :scream:

anyway I was asked to put some closeups of the details on the OFDW thread - so thought I’d share it here too… just the interesting parts, trust me you don’t want to see that dress in close-up [well if you do I’ll probably post the high res version at the and anyway :)]

#305

This is coming out really nice, I love the dress especially, it really looks like shiny satin!

#306

Absolutely stunning, BRAVO! :applause: As for the background, pattern away! You’ve done a fantastic job with the OFDWs, this one is no exception. Anyways, no crits, I just wanted to cheer you on.

Also, I’m sure you’ve heard this, but you’re quite the double threat with both 2d and 3d!

Happy New Year.

#307

Roja - thanks

Kniblink - awwww! Cheers - and a Very Happy New Year to you as well

                 ...............................................................................

you know what I find most astounding about that whole OFDW! That I remember things - I mean I was painting staring and details, zooming in and out and not really thinking that much about stuff sometimes, just trying to make them look like the original but I was randomly sketching in photoshop today in bw and then applying colour on it and I found myself remembering the values on the faces, the way things were drawn where the shadows were and where the highlights! Also colours which is most astonishing since I haven’t done that much of it yet! I can safely say that master copy thing works

I was reading an article on how the master ateliers of the 19th century operated and well they knew it long before me LOL but I guess one has to discover things by his/her-self!
I’m enlightened and I’m definitely joining in more workshops! Thanks Rebeccak! :bounce: I’m actually having a breakthrough and starting to believe I can do stuff out of my imagination as well as copies which I was convinced I could not… I’m nowhere near where I would like to be but there’s hope

#308

ok that was my random rambling

and this is random - literally - colour wash! mainly paying attention to the dress colour or rather only to the dress colour… so don’t pay attention to the weird face colour LOL it’s just a base I assure you

amazing how Ingres combined cold pinks and hot pinks in that one dress not to mention green  [it’s my new theory btw: green and purple are omnipresent :scream:]

#309

oh, how very cool - she is so close now, I love that pink and the bows, I’m going to ask my husband if he’ll get me a dress like that

That is so awesome how you’re progressing and really feeling the difference in your work. I’m so happy for you! :bounce: Its so cool to see people being passionate about what they do - quite uplifting and inspiring - ahh, and makes me want to go draw.

Abby

#310

OMG…!!!

#311

lol anand I like that reaction

HELL YEAH she’s pink, I know it’s actually way OTT but I think I’m beginning to like that saturated version…

Abby - thanks, I kinda like that dress too - well maybe except for that veily-lacey thing at the bottom, I hate this part LOL

a little bit more - very little bit  and I’m off to bed… gotta go to work in the morning…

#312

:love:oooh, satiny! Verrry nice! :applause: A question about the addition of the color- you’re painting it in a separate layer in PS, right? I’m curious how much shading is done in the color layer- do you think you could post just a little portion with the gray image turned off and just a white layer behind the color?

Happy new year and good luck at work tomorrow!

Hi Internvain What beautiful crafts(wo)manship in this piece. Very rich in textures and the color is so nice and subtle. Very appealing in every way. Now I must try this b/w and color mode method because your example has set a standard for me. Wow.

#314

AztcFireFlower - wow, you flatter me! IT’s a great method I must say I love it…

milw - well I can post the colour layer but it will have to do with the grey bg  The white bg won’t work since the colour layer is set on colour mode so everything that’s white comes out white and everything that’s 50% grey comes out in colour
so the lighter and darker smudges is the colour on normal mode and the overpainting I did [the body colour and the dark burgundy one mainly…] - there’ll be lots of it on the face I think…

Ideally if you make the b&w perfect you don’t have to overpaint probably but I doubt that ever happens to anyone, especially that many colour subtleties have the same value very often so you would not even see them in b&w and can only paint them on later…
hope this helps

#315

WOWeee!!

#316

well… you paint dresses like only a few at cgtalk can do this… so no more of this “I can’t paint” crap from you ok? :stuck_out_tongue:

I’ve never actually done things this way… with another layer in color mode… can’t wait to be able to do so soon. (I don’t care about the OFDW deadline really, won’t make it in time anyway)

Anyway,

I wish you a [color=orange]very happy 2oo7 Magdalena. I hope it will be a year full of joy and all the other good things in life will find your way! Keep rockin’ this place :)[/color]

#317

hehe so I could be a tailor ;)? Well maybe it’s just an internal thing - I never had any formal training in art so I’m just convinced that I can’t paint! I guess it’ll remain that way till my dying days

Thanks very much Johan! And same to you too!!

Mark - thanks a lot!

Hmm… I just looked at this image I posted on my workstation at work and the colours do look so much more toned down - my home monitor makes the pink really crazey

#318

hey magdalena!

-i thought of a whole bunch of things to say to you but now, i really lost my word. this is outstanding. beautyful work. you can almost feel the fabrics of her dress. i’m also very impressed by how you did the feathers.
-and i could keep on going like this… -so in short. exellent work.
can’t wait to see the finished one.

You got insane with this OFDW! Two amazing pieces. I love to see you putting so much work into this. You must have learned loads of stuff. Can’t image how the hell you’ve managed to do the dresses so great looking

#320

Thank you guys!!

decided to play around with her instead of doing a faithful copy - especially that I really don’t like the face of Ingres model nor her orangy colour [hate orange :scream:] …

basically I’m having fun and not looking at the original now… may abandon that later on but so far it’s just pure joy LOL [just doing the face now! - hands still to go and dress to finish…]

all yee purists - do forgive the crazey person  dont’ look if my madness doth offend!
