Sketchbook Thread of HollowPoint

Hello All! I am in need of assistance from pretty much anyone who is willing to help me. A little run down on what I need. Im hoping to go into the computer animation field as my career. Ever since I saw Toy Story I wanted to do it. My art ability I would say is somewhat average(not the best but understands the basics to an extent) especially looking at everyone elses work on here. What Im hoping is that I could get feed back on my sketches that I will update. I know drawing is a big part of this career and hobby and if I want to get into RSAD Im going to need to step up my game BIG TIME! Here is my start to the sketch book. Thanks for your time- Hollowpoint

Becca has a great intro to the sub-forum here. It looks like the first thing you need to focus on is perspective. Get ahold of Andrew Loomis’s pdfs and go through his excellent perspective section. Once you’re applying the theory that let images look 3D it will be a big help.

The portrait sketch looks like a solid first step, take a look at the drawing on the right side of the brain thread for more on what you can expect with that. You’re ‘Sausage Sam’ sit comic is pretty solid, one thing I would recommend there is to use boxes for the head/ribcage and torso instead of an oval. That will force you to think in 3d, and let you start work on that type of drawing from different angles (sort of like: this where the red lined version has the boxes for the elementary shapes etc).

Good luck

Hi

I think at this stage it would be a good idea to do more line sketches, focussing on the shape of the subjects you are drawing. Breaking down a complicated subject (eg a human) in simple shapes is quite challenging though once mastered it’s a solid base to build upon, especially if you want to go animating. Draw 2D but think 3D while doing it.

The first drawing is quite good. Would be cool te see more like those.

OK cool, Ill deff do what you said with more line sketches and draw 2D but think of 3D, and the first one only came out the best of all them so far was because it was in class right after a teacher did a demo and gave pointers through out.

Thanks for the help!
