A few sketches of heads and some from imagination

I guess this one would have to go down as a ā€œfan-headā€ Soccer fan… doodled
this during world cup-even though this player wasn’t in the Argentine team this WC…

hi frejasphere, great to see your work, very interesting style you have, with lovely use of bold, strong colours, really works on your ceramics especially which are great…also loved Noey…

Hey Frejasphere!

man, i need to get here more often - great progress! Love the bold way you use your colours - very exciting - it puts some zest and energy into the painting. Your pen is also looking great, looks like you are approaching them in a very fearless manner - keep at that! Something you might want to try with the pen is to draw without picking it up, or picking it up as little as possible. This tends to take any hairyness away and seems to add some more enrgy to the drawing.

The drawing of the woman with her face on the ground - great idea, think you could have enforced the idea some more, maybe exaggerated the way her nose and cheeks and lips press against the floor, have some of the hair drop to the surface. But very impressive overall - post more!

ciao!

Hi all again

thanks demented for kind words  and suggestions, I quite like drawing cross-contour or continuous line… on my want to do more list  I do like your post titles too  they live an amusing / poignant life of their own - keep them coming and thanks for popping in

A few of the sketches I’ve done for the 15 min Sketchathon… popped them all in one file… to save some space, but they are drawn on 30x30 or 30x21cm paper. Most are 15 minute, a few are around 10 minutes… heaps fun and will find time for more

cheers all

Hey Annette,

just dropped in to see what’s new and needed a while to have a closer look at each piece. I’m really impressed to see the wide range of your skills, I like the ink drawings as much as the colorful paintings…all full of energy, I admire:thumbsup: .
And the 15 minutes sketches, wow, you have no problems at all to capture the proportions perfectly, not:scream: ? I especially like the middle one on the right side, looks like much more work than 15 minutes! Keep posting here, it’s a pleasure to follow!

Have a nice day!

Hello Frejasphere!
Nice looking speed sketches there, haven’t tried it mutch myself, do you find it helpful?
It seems your biggest problem are the hands, but these are made fast so I guess you would work them further if you err. would work them furher
But I think your heads look really great! And I’ll try to learn a thing or two about your use of colours.
I’ll be visiting this thread again for sure, so keep posting!

Hi again…

Thanks for stopping in Sabrina and Jho

Sabie; kind words  thank you! I do like to draw fast, there’s that freedom in looking and drawing with limited time, aiming just for the essence of form… I thought the pen version of the woman on the middle right would have been better with ink wash… but that was a bit hard to change 10 minutes into madly cross-hatching away

Jho, thanks for comments and for popping back  and yes you’re right these sketches are fast, so main thing I find is to concentrate on the form and the pose… I do like to use quick sketches as a way of capturing some essence, it can be good for losening up… sometimes using your non-drawing hand, or not looking at the paper (blind contour), or just concentrating on the negative spaces - can help to push things in new directions. Even if a blind contour might look crazy, yet there can be things there that are exciting to build on

take care and cheers

Hi all

Done some quick sketches of hands (and a few small feet) even got my 4 year-old to model for a bit, so those ones are VERY quick :D, she did think it was fun though, so will try to bribe her into some more modelling

biro on paper - quick sketches ~ 5 min

Hands and feet of family members

This one is a quick painting I did the other day… based on the style of work I used to do on clay… just thought I’d pop it in  - Acrylic on canvas

ā€œMother Earth Will Carry Me Back to The Seaā€ Acrylic on canvas 2006 AA

Kris, thanks for popping in and for comments

Here’s a painting done today - pretty much finished…
no references used  I enjoy breaking faces/bodies into planes of colour. Also gives me a break from more detailed and realistic work that I’m doing

cheers all and happy creating

HI

I see you’ve been hard it, great work. Thought I might find some digital work ? not yet\

Mark

#54

Hiya Mark… thanks for popping back, always nice

No, not done any digital work yet… been too busy with ā€œtraditionalā€ work, but will take the plunge in the not too distant future I hope  - Just spent weekend cleaning out workshop and making more space to paint… I do think they are combinable though… just have to give it a go.

cheers and take care

Done some quick sketches (pencil and graphite on paper) of da Vinci drawings… 5 - 15 minutes.

this one was 5 min… I think it’s called something like ā€œproportions of the headā€ :scream:

cross section of scull… 15 min

ā€œgrotesqueā€ head… 15 min I realized afterwards that his chin actually comes out quite a bit further - prominent features

15 min

cheers

and 2 more paintings with faces… they sort of tell stories - through colours and expressions, as they are stylized and not obviously representational of any particular face, the story can vary depending on who is looking. Acrylic on canvas, no references  I paint straight on the canvas and let the faces evolve as I go.

Now that these are done… I need to get back to finishing portraits and… get stuck into the underworld giant… who is by now haunting my dreams and very much awake… :scream: I sort of have the concept… just need to get the sketches done

cheers all and take care

… who is by now haunting my dreams and very much awake…

I have that too… dreaming about it is good though
Love your use of color Frejasphere, allthough I fear it’s a bit too much for my simple brain to understand

your drawings are superb and show you’ve got great skill! I’m jealous :buttrock:

Opps sorry for neglecting thread for a while… :scream: been busy and sick all in one go…

Thanks NR43 for stopping by and for kind words  :wavey: really appreciate it

Been idea-mangling the earth-awakening-giantess and finally got to sketching the first stage of her… concept is based on Earthmother - giantess who awakens from the sea, despairing at what humankind has done to nature… she morphes into a cyklone, rising out of the sea with devastating force… this force isn’t governed by anger, but a reaction to what us humans have brought on through neglecting earth and awakening the giant…

so… a rough sketch, and be posting more in a bit

cheers all and take care

hi

great concept , very fitting these days, sad to say.

hope your family is feeling better

Studying Da Vinci, eh? Great. Nice quick studies. Try doing some longer ones, practise hatching. Fun stuff :bounce: I’m not really a fan of paintings like yours with those faces, so skipping that. The giant, it’s still an early idea so I’ll wat for more updates. Ah, all the giants in almost every thread pushes me to do one of my own, but I can’t get it work…
