Hi all

TheMiyamotoMusashi - thanks for popping in, great questions, yet hard to answer :stuck_out_tongue: I am
more of a hands-on person than someone who reads lots of manuals, yet, naturally I do learn a lot from looking at other artists’ work. I tend to absorb things better when I can apply ideas through collaborative or other interactive methods - I treasure the input from teachers over the years - & watching them work, and also from spending time in art galleries drawing - I’ve been drawing since I was a kid, yet started formal training at 16 (which makes it hmm… over 20 years) - always learning

I don’t tend to keep track of time  but generally spend 3-5 days a week working full-time with art.

Johan - Good to see you - and nah, no pressure whatsoever

I’m not sure if this is the final - may tinker a bit more…

after Gio OFDW-22 |

and I couldn’t resist adding the eyes…

cheers all and take care

hi
Doing some awesome work for the OFDW  and if that last one was with a mouse i cann’t wait to see what you can do with a digital pen

Mark

#363

I second that ! Excellent work !

#364

Wow thanks guys!

Mark - Nice to see you pop in! saw a great piece of yours in the OFDW!

Tiziano - Thanks - and likewise; your patience is paying off in the OFDW

I am still playing but having so much fun - feeling overwhelmed by all the supportive
comments from you people

The mouse (as I know no different) seems to be ok, but I am curious how different
it would feel to be using a tablet and ā€œpenā€ (do easterbunnies bring things like that? )

another update: played around with the eyes a bit more:

cheers all and take care
a.

#365

Freja: having used a mouse myself about 1 year ago, I can tell you the tablet is incomparable. It gets a little bit of time to get used to, but trust me, you won’t want to go back once you’ve switched

#366

Hey Annette,
have you ever seen or tried yourself to see your ā€œleft face headā€ or ā€œright face headā€ ? What I mean: Take a foto and mirror it in the middle so you get a face which is completly only the right side of the persons face or completely the left side of the person. Just mirrored so there is a complete face. This is very interressting to see how different people look like on each side.

Maybe you should give it a try?

The potrait is becoming a very nice painting! Keepit up!

Back from a wonderful sunny holiday

Unfortunately I had a bit of an altercation with a cockroach
last night (I have a complete phobia of them  ), which resulted
in a fractured finger  (insane I know… - atleast the
insect is worse off as it’s dead…)
I know I will find it hard to not work (right index finger
strapped to the middle finger for 2-3 weeks makes for interesting
drawing, painting and typing), so guess I’ll just try and work my way
around it.

On the good side I have some cool looking X-rays of my fingers
which will be fun to draw once I can grip a pen

Trunks - Thanks for popping in, and yes I have looked at the
left/left vs right/right through mirroring each side of a face -
it is quite fascinating (esp when you compare the ā€œrightā€ to the ā€œleftā€
and have the unaltered - normal face in the middle); it’s sort of what
I was getting at earlier with the ā€œassymetryā€ of faces

Tiziano - I will look into it  and thanks for popping in

no update just yet…

take care all and cheers
a.

#368

oh sorry about the broken finger - and OMG I’m having all sorts of visions of your struggle with those horrible creatures… I’m not scared of any insects but cocroaches and moths… I’m sure I’d have gone ballistic as well hehe:scream:

#369

You break your finger and you still sound so positive!
Now that is something to aspire for…

Best of luck, hope it won’t bother you too much

btw, I have a simular thing with wasps… wouldn’t be the first time I’d be running around like a madman on a crowdy terras… oh well, at least the spectators are in for a good laugh each time this happens (no fractures yet though)

#370

Hey Annette!!.. sad to hear about the broken finger… This might be the time to practise drawing with your left hand, though!!:D… stimulates both sides of the brain, you know!!:scream:

#371

Oh thank you so much guys for the sweet replies  !! To be honest I feel like a
complete dimwit managing to cause such damage and chaos in a situation where
most would conquer and prevail

Magdalena and Johan - indeed… there is a time and place for ballistic

Anand - Thanks, I think left hand drawings may be a great idea at the moment

I am learning to use a strapped middle finger for ā€œleft-clickā€ and right-hand ring finger
for ā€œright-clickā€ā€¦ it’s certainly making my brain do loops, other than that all is good and
I am glad the damage wasn’t worse

cheers and take care

#372

Hi all

Had a play today - before deciding where to go with the OFDW (keep going on the GiO or
start on a new one…)

ephew My nephew, who turns 4 in a few weeks

cheers all and take care
a.

#373

Thats a really sweet picture!!

#374

Thanks Anand  - he really is a very sweet little boy so I think it’s more in the
subject  thanks for popping in!

I decided to finish it off a little more - it’s all quite interesting at the moment
with my fingers strapped, but I’m learning to work around it - and unfortunately
I’m just too impatient to follow doctor’s orders

cheers all and take care
a.

After having a break from Antropus Tribal woman, (still sitting on the easel and
not yet sprayed…) I went back and moved the neck a bit - thanks to Wolf and Sabrina for pointing that one out…

I think I will call her done now…

Urgh a fracture… I’ve mildly burned and cut my hands over the last month so I can sympathize a little. For me it was foreign to have to use just my left thumb on the space bar when typing, the index finger must be like relearning how to walk

I like how the Gio study came together. Well captured face, and the slightly worried expression is a very nice fit. Incredible to do that with a mouse… a tablet would make 90% of the work go faster, it’d be nice to see your results with that. Hopefully the Easter Bunny has more then chocolate

Nice job capturing the character of your nephew  Seems a touch yellow in the highlights, but that could just be an artifact of what I expect instead of what the actual light is.

The metal coils and the cloth at the neck are just ridiculously well rendered in the Antropus piece, grats. The face sort of has an odd feel being that unsaturated while surrounded by such strong colour, but it makes for an interesting piece.

Nice sketchbook

#377

Hi all

Thanks Kary  kind words and comments, great to have you pop in  I think you are right about the yellow tones, I think I’m working a bit haphazardly at this - it’s heaps of fun, and quite addicting - I am on route to bribe the easter bunny (or one of his friends) for a tablet  I hope your hands are healing - dare not ask what caused it - both burns and cuts, sounds pretty dreadful!

I’m not sure - but I feel that learning some of the digital techniques may actually benefit traditional mediums as well… The process seems quite intuitive - and in some ways similar to ā€œhands-onā€ traditional processes; picking colours to paint, building up (I’ve been mainly aiming at dark to light, which is pretty much how I paint) form and
so on… The main difference I think is the ability to zoom in and look at sections in highly enlarged detail. At this stage I feel I’m quite ā€œmessyā€ and probably have to agree that the mouse does slow things down… - I don’t really mind at the moment though as it’s all learning in some form

another attempted portrait - a friend [used photo as ref]

#378

Hi all

I started a nother one in the OFDW today, first 2 steps after
drummer - Marco Menco’s 3D render (great ref to work from!)

bit messy at this stage - but I’m having fun

A few sketches - while sitting on the lounge
listening to an audio book (very suspenseful :D)
partly used references (a sheet of mixed photos printed out) and partly
used imagination.

all done in a small sketchbook with felt tip ink pen

cheers all and take care
