Sketchbook Thread of evan

#1

Hi all,
seems like I got jealous with all the great work in this forum, so decided to “make” me a thread for dumping doodles, unfinished and original stuff…

So for starters, a late night unfinished doodle wip in artrage v1, which i prefer to v2, cause its interface is less bubblegum clutter, which i took over to painter in the end…

Heya Evan! Great to see you putting up a Sketchbook! I’m excited to see what kind of work you’ll be doing - hopefully you can participate in the OFDWs!

Looking forward to seeing more of your work.

Welcome Evanfotis

Haha I get jealous all the time around here, there’s so many great artists. But the good thing is is that it pushes you to get better.
I really like your picture with the tourist guy and the banks, it’s drawn really well!

Thanks Rebecca! so kind, always encouraging struggling artists:scream: …
BTW aexcuse my ignorance but what’s the “OFDWs”?

Hi Maura, thanks!

Murat and Anand, thanks for the feedback.
As for the OFDWs, I don’t think I have the time this period for smthng like that… maybe summertime, or after May, when I should have been done with a book I’m writting & illustrating. Lets see…

#15

Thanks mates.
Nice portfolio and studies you have NR43 Like ya logo too!
Here’s some pen and pencils work on request :-):

#16

Aw! Love the head studies! Nice hatching! you have quite a distinctive style in your painted works too:thumbsup: keep it coming :bounce:

#17

Ou I really like that last pencil sketch of the man. Looks really realistic. Did you copy those from drawings or draw them from photos or something, or how?

#18

Really strong pen studies - love the volume that you have achieved with these, and the fact that you’ve put your own personality into them as well. Would love to see this translated a bit more into the digital work, some of which I think needs just a bit more structure and form to make things pop. There is something in this sketch that I really enjoy in terms of line quality and motion, check out ytresu’s drawings in his sketchbook, they’re wonderful.

Cheers!

Thanks all for ya comments.
@ Roja: these last ones are from photos because they are specific personalities, polititians, actors etc.
@ Rebekka:
thanks for you kind words.
As you might see, the linearts are more concentrated “work”, whereas the digital doodles are just… doodles, playing around to unload…
It is true however, I’m far more comfortable in sketching traditionally than digitally.
I haven’t got a cintiq yet, but just don’t have the control as I have with pencil.
Don’t have the luxury of practicing long hours for that, so to be time efficient, I pencil sketch, scan in and continue digitally. (and get an original left too as a bonus)

Painting however is I would dare say quite the opposite. Digitally one can mix up styles, brushes etc undo, have the sketch layered, whereas traditionally if you mess up a tone and analogy, you start from scratch.

Since I see the pen hatching is popular, here are some inked caricatures from my site, and a pencil at the end:
