Sketchbook Thread of Cris Palomino

Thanks for all the comments, everyone. I really love the ability to see all the different ways that we all work…and very much appreciate the time people take to not only look, but comment.

Ya know, Cya, I had thought the eye was too small…and when I saw your comment…I figured, that must be confrimation. Here is a modified version.

Thanks,
Cris

Hi Chris

This painting is coming along beautifully! My little girl saw it and had only wows and beautifuls to say   The hair looks great! and fairy’s expression is sort of sweet and at the same time it’s like she’s thinking about something… maybe a tiny tiny bit of mischief in there?

Totally agree. Great expression on the fairy. In fact, not just the expression, but the face itself- it’s real, not an idealized and generic version of beauty, but a natural face with familiar human warmth and character.

Hiya Cris, I agree with the rest here - very nice work with the fairy. She looks a little bit cross eyed to me, but that only adds to the expression. Hair work on this and the previous is awesome

Hi, Annette…thanks and I think your daughter’s comments are the highest compliments I could ever receive from anyone! Please thank her.

Thank you, Mychael. Yeah, I wanted her to have a naturalness about her.

Hey, Gunie…thanks…and yeah, I’m constantly adjusting things as I paint… but I do kinda like the way her expression and eyes are coming out.

Here’s a bit of an update.

To try something different, I participated in and posted to the Dark Lord themed Sketch thread (http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=403613&goto=newpost).

This was timed for 25 min. and very fun to do.

Hi Chris

I really like your thread  you have a lovely attitude and a great way of sharing your work with everyone   It’s been exciting to follow your fairy and bird, and Amanda (my little girl) was most pleased that her comments went down well   We are excitedly looking forward to more…

Your dark lord  great! I like the way you’ve simply captured a persona with few lines and effective shading, the red eyes are so cool!

Take care Chris
and cheers

Anette…:blush::blush::blush:…thanks.

Decided to try a sketch for the Stupid Girls sketch thread.

This is my 25 minute mark:

I’ve got about two hours into this one…heh…some just go faster than others:

…but I’m having fun…I may develop this into a fuller illutration down the line.

Hey, Cris,

Nice update on the fairy… she’s turning into a real ‘cutie-pie.’ I like your sketches as well. I know how hard the Daily Sketch Forum can be, but you’ve done a great job. I look forward to more wonderful updates!

#72

Thank you, Mychael! I am enjoying participating in the sketchathons…the 25 minutes is a killer…you don’t know how fast it can go by till you have to stop at 25. Heh!

And there are some very good, fast artists.

Here’s an update on the fae.

Hey Cris!
I really like the dynamic pose of the cartoon girl.
The portraits on page 1 also look very solid! :applause:

Thank you, Julian and Anette.

I just completed the majority of my training videos for this week’s Painter class. This week we’re exploring making papers and using the textures to create a piece. This was my example piece in my video.

I made textures from two different barks and one from a field of stones one of my students took while on vacation in Croatia. The rocks were used primarily for the foliage, some of the tree and a bit of the grass. The tree barks on the tree and a rough felt for the grass. The square chalk was used for all at lowered opacity.

The rock texture.

The example.

I’ve started a thread on The Golden Age of Illustration in WIP/2D. Will post my sketches here as well, but do my progress past the sketch phase over in that thread.

Was this done in a computer? or natural media? I love the latest drawing, reminds me of the opening of Disney’s Cinderella. I forget the song now though, :frowning:

#79

Thanks, Nathan. I like sketching in Painter and that’s where this was done.
