Hi…Cris…

Just stopping by to say…Hi…and that I enjoyed reading about your Disney adventure…
REALLY like that drawing you just posted…nicely composed…very pleasant to look at…
Was wondering if that is going to be a KING FISHER next to her…BEAUTIFUL bird… I have a nesting pair in the marsh behind my house…always see them sitting on a branch overhanging the water,…then they fly up, flap their wings in a hover motion,…then dive like a bullet into the water, and usually emerge with a fish…a great little action and drama to watch…
Hope you find time to paint that drawing you just posted…would make a beautiful painting…
Hope your painting class is going great so far…
PS…THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR HELP…

Hi, Elsie…thanks for stopping by and commenting. I’ll play with the idea of opening the wings. As you say, it will all depend on how that moves the story forward or not.

Glenn. That is indeed a Kingfisher. They really are wonderful birds. I have not, regretably, seen any in person. How jealous I am that you have such a wonderful site near you. You should try to photograph or video them.

The class has started up and I am really enjoying it. Hopefully, my students are, too.

Let me know when you get the ZBrush video and if you like it.

Am going to use this to demo oils in Painter. This uses a variation of the oil brush that makes it kind of bushy.

#44

Starting the Kingfisher.

#45

A little more…

#46

Time for a bit of a break…even though I’d like to keep going.

#47

Will start working on fae and other aspects for a bit.

Heya Cris,

I have to thank you for pointing me to those beautiful photos you did earlier on pbase and it was great to hear about your interest in painting animals ~ I think you’re great at giving animals real personality and it’s really nice to see this piece as it develops. I definitely look forward to seeing your demos in the weeks ahead.

Cheers,

~Rebecca

Hi Chris

Beautiful bird and fairy (or fae)  I love the way you have the bird smiling. It’s a great to watch the details and colours evolve. It’s great to see your work, and it will be exciting to see the pair finished :bounce:

Take care

Hi…Cris …

GREAT job on that King Fisher and Fairy so far…
I found a great way to do feary wings awhile back, using painters…liquid lens and metal…might come in handy to you, if not now…maybe down the road…I make the viens and line of wings using the liquid metal, with tranparency slider all the way to the left…easier to contol the line.
Then I ajust it to tranparent, using the sliders, so it looks like glass…press OK ,…then go to lighting effects in the surface control menu…in the effects section…those colored spotlights used to put whatever color I want for the wings…they will only put color on the parts that you have done with the metal and lens brush…You end up with that magical tranparent luminious…dragonfly wing look.
You can also ajust the contrast ect. while you are there…will only affect the wings.
There is an example of this technique, on the fairy portrait on my portfollio page…one of those little paintings about half way down, green colors, and in the middle,… I think,… in case you might be interested…A little technique, that might be a nice addition to the tools in your arsenal …
GREAT to hear that you are enjoying teaching your painting class…your students are too i’m sure…
I just got that…Z BRUSH DVD in the mail…will have to wait tell Jessica gets back from visiting her sister tommarrow, so she can show me how to play it…LOL…NEW MACHINES ANYWAY…make me feel like a CAVEMAN sometimes…:scream:
HAVE A GODD ONE …

Thanks for the tips, Glenn…hadn’t thought to try that…interesting.

This is a calla lily I painted for a demo in my Painter class. They are among my favorite flowers.

Slightly larger version in my gallery.

Some really nice work you got here - I especially like the birds, wonderful colorwork!
Looking forward to see where you take the bird/fairy pic, you seem to be able to do wonders with Painter.

Thanks, Gunilla.

I have been asked to be the feature guest artist at a site, Artzone. blush

I’ve done a four part video on how to paint hair…this is a render of DAZ’s Aiko model over which I painted the hair. The video doesn’t take it to completion (it was already almost 19 minutes), but close to it.

Heya Cris.

I love your b&w drawings from the first page- they’re great! I’d love to see more like that…do you have any that we’re not seeing?

I really liked the second watercolor, it’s perfect for a children’s book…

Give us more!

Hi, dear Paperclip.

I’ll find some of my pencils and put them up just for you.

I just finished a four-part video painting demo for my Painter class on Predator eyes and feathers using the wet acrylic brush variants. I’m having so much fun.

Been doing so many class videos and have to start the next batch…took a little time to start painting the fae.

Time for bed.

Hi…Cris…

It’s a real pleasure watching your painting develope…coming out BEAUTIFUL…
Like that eye…has the wild stare of a great horned owl…had one when I was younger, gave it to the L.A. zoo when I moved to Boston…beautiful bird when you got up close enough to see all the different kinds of feathers it had on it’s face and body…
Sounds like your class is going well…really enjoying the works you are posting in your thread.
CAN’T WAIT TO SEE MORE…

nice work, good tones on the last one. Maybe the proportions of the face are a bit off. Make sure the face is symmetrical…the eyes look a bit weird according to each other. can’t really put my finger on it.
looking forward to the result!

(edit the ear is fine, had to see it with less colors on it, seems to line up perfectly!) Its really coming along nicely can’t wait how to see how you go about painting in the hair. Seems like that would be really hard to do.
