Sketchbook Thread of Cisc0

thanks Aggie… they were exercises done at school.

here we are one friend from mind (title:“digesting”) and 2 quick sketches from the workshops:

Painting in opencanvas. Reference from a book about Bernini. It isn’t a good copy because there’re a lot of mistakes (for example the eyes, the mouth, etc…) and also I don’t like the final result of the image. But I really enjoyed the digital training :applause:

#63

Again practicing with openCanvas; again a copy from Bernini’s work. 2.5h… I know is too much for a copy like this and I’m trying to speed up myself. I think this is the best work I ever done in digital (of course I did few digital paintings  ). I had a lot of fun with it

it’s not finished, but I don’t know if I’m going to refine it

It’s a great study and you are studying from a truly great master! Bernini rockz, it’s a pitty I don’t have a good book that covers his work (yet! working on expanding my personal library, he’s on the list for sure)

You could bring more life in the eyes if you darken the pupils I think.

Also, 2,5hrs isn’t that long for a painting. Don’t worry about the hours it takes, we all must get over the 10000 hours cape to become good anyway
Just keep going, you’re doing great!

#65

I would like to chime in with Johan and say that 2.5 hours are not long. Give yourself time. Instead of speeding up, slow down! Johan has this beautiful b/w Ingres mastercopy in his portfolioof the young woman with this beautiful dress which must have taken forever - but just look at the level of value control and beauty he achieved!

BTW, I don’t know the original, but this study seems pretty light as regards values. Is the overall key really that high? Because my first idea would be to tone down the shades a lot.

Keep doing it!

liked the style of drawing…

#67

Johan: thanks mate (also for the tips of the eye)! Bernini’s one of my favourite sculptors. I want to improve my speed (without loosing the quality of course) because I feel I need it… I’m not impatient to become better just as it would be a thing that I must only wait for (I don’t know if I said it well). Of course i’ll keep it up ;). And very well done with the work that Mu linked here: wonderful piece

Mu: thanks too… I think you’re right for the light of the paint: I didn’t notice it during the work. It’s the original one btw.

Jaisan: I’m glad you like my style

Just one little sketch for today: it says: “WELCOME TO LILLIPUT”

Study for a sculpture (school exercise):

And here we have some markers practicing (first time I try to do something serious with them…). 4 figures are from reference (2 from Stjepan Sejic works and 2 are the face of an Italian singer)

#70

Modeling with clay.
Theme: “Motherhood”
No references, I didn’t want a full figurative work… and I think it isn’t finished

#71

There is a lot beautiful and expressive work here, keep it coming my friend

#72

nice work on clay buddy…would love to see it finished…

#73

Thanks guys!

Here we have:

A cartoon style portrait (of me) that was made by a classmate of mine. I just did the “colorist” (of course I know there aren’t colors…)

A very old self portrait from mirror (full of mystakes but it’s quite me  )

A quick study for my little clay sculpture

A doodle

#74

Great stuff Francesco!

Markers are a great medium don’t you agree?

#75

Hey Cisc0, I like the prego clay model. About how big is that? It looks like it is almost life size.

#76

Johan: thanks mate… and you’re right about markers. I’m thinking to buy 3 or 4 professional markers like Copics or Pantones (maybe different values of grey) and start practicing with them untill I reach the same “feeling” that I have with pens.

Aggie: thanks to you too! She’s about 29 cm tall
