Sketchbook Thread of Cisc0

#1

Hello everyone! I’m new on CGTalk and new of digital paintings. So here we are: a sketchbook that I hope will helps me learning anatomy and will makes me a little bit better with my new, cool Bamboo.
I’ll try to update it often of course.

The first sketch is made in ArtRage (I was inspired by Francis Tsai’s workshop on ImagineFX site). Of course it isn’t so “anatomycal” as start but I had fun (it’s the second time for me drawing with a tablet and it isn’t so easy at the start  ).

P.S.: please, be good if my English isn’t so right

Good evening all… here we are some sketches from mind with pen. I’m sorry if you could see the images behind the sheet, but the paper of my sketchbook is really thin :hmm:

Was inspired by a man in the park near my liceum in Biella (I’m at the 4th year of the secondary school):

A couple of quick studies from mind:

Having fun with my dear pen during the school time, waiting for my classmates finishing their works:

Hi Cisco, welcome to the forum! I like the way you construct your shapes. Very nice lines too! Keep going!

#5

I agree with Bart. You’ve got a very distinguished drawing style.

Not much to crit at this stage. If there is one thing, I’d say don’t be afraid to go darker in value when shading.

Looking forward to see more!

Thx for the comments guys.

Oh and Johan you’re right for the comment on the darker shapes, I’ll try to keep it in mind.

By the way, here’s some morning sketching:

Here we are other 3 pages from my sketchbook… pen drawing as before. The human figure is driving me crazy :wip:

#8

Hey - lovely sketches. I like the way you’re stretched and warped the proportions whilst still keeping things balanced. Fun stuff !

#9

Thanks Tom; the truth is that I still suck drawing real humans from mind and I idealize my figures too much, but hey… I’m here to learn ;).

Another couple of pages from my sketchbook:

Great sketches! I like the combination of loose expressive lines and geometric shapes to build your figures.

#11

I really like your economy of line - it’s very pleasing to look at. Keep it up!

Thanks guys!

Here I just tried to digital sketching: the first thing that I thought about the result was -->… Using a tablet is not like using my dear pen, and blending as Nebezial explained in his tutorial is really hard at starting. Hope that practice will makes me better…
Oh and if there’s anyone that can suggest me some exercises to improve my digital skills please, tell me!

the image is made in PS

Great start on your digital journey! I mostly use Painter now, but when I used to work in PS, I used the color picker (alt-click) a lot to get an intermediary color to paint over areas wanted blended. Also the general rule of thumb is to start with high opacity to quickly block in, and gradually lower opacity as you go.

You should also check out smudge tutorial by Alenah. There are tons of other goodies and inspiring stuff in her thread that have helped me so much.

Thx for the advices Heozart! Also the thread you linked is very insteresting… I’ll have a lot of work to do

#15

Update…

#16

Just wondering… why do you draw the heads of your figures so small?

#17

there isn’t really a reason… I know that my figures are full of mistakes. Just need to practice to fix them. I also know some proportions rules, but drawing from mind is too different than copying a model, and it’s hard for me to apply them well… as I said just need to draw (I hope)

#18

What I find so intruiging is that even though the proportions aren’t what we experience as “normal”, your figures look really beautiful. There is a certain elegance that I really like. Every figure seems to be treated as one element, rather than a collection of limbs.
Fascinating!

Yes, that’s what I always try to obtain drawing “living stuff”. And probably your last comment is the best thing that I ever heard about my creatures; I also like to think that my subonscious is trying to guide my hands sometimes.
But also I need to be able to draw a normal human, I think that it is a must for an “artist”. We’ll see

Nice sketches! You certainly have a unique style. Getting used to a tablet just takes time. Do a lot of quick excercises on it, like your sketches and 15 minute paintings etc, and soon enough you’ll forget you found it hard to use. Good luck, and keep sketching!
