Sketchbook Thread of Bruce Azevedo

#1

Hello, everyone. I’m Bruce and welcome to my Sketchbook Thread. This, more than anything, is a commitment to myself, in the sense that I, although having a good knowledge of anatomy, tend to slack it off. So, I’m gonna try update as much as possible, probably on a weekly basis.
Feel free comment, criticize, give me money (although I’m only accepting $100 or higher :)),etc… As u can tell, I’m a good humored guy but I know sometimes things can be misinterpreted; trying to be funny, I’ve failed in writting what I can do pretty well talking and mimicing. So, please have that in mind when readind my posts.

Enough chit-chat. This is what I've been up the last couple of days:

For the sketches above, I used as reference pictures from the beautiful RoseyThorn 's Deviant Gallery.

Hi
you’ve made a great start already I think and I’m looking forward to see you sharpening your skills here…

Have fun

I agree fantastic work so far. Although you might want to try some dark shades since its not very dynamic shading wise yet. It getting there. I really like the last pencil sketch. Has a nice illustrative feel to it.

#5

Yeah, I agree with u on the darker shades matter but I didn’t want to spend too much time on these sketches; I was trying something different from what I usually do, which was using pressure on size with 10 or 20% op. So I got bored bulding up the blacks:D.
Oh, and no pencil sketches here. They’re all digital.
Thanks for taking the time to drop me some lines:thumbsup:.

Use darker shades so you have less to build up. Less work than. In drawing I use softer pencils to do this. If your using a wacom tablet you should be able to achieve lighter shades with less pressure.

Thanks, bro:thumbsup:

Hi Bruce,

Welcome! I would like to see more of your traditional drawings, as I think that while you have a good start here, what the figures are lacking is emphasis and, for lack of a better word, ‘punch’ - that’s something more easily gotten in traditional media, and I think would help you to put that into your digital work.

Cheers!

Hi, Rebecca. Yes, I so agree with u about traditional being easier to get that feel. For me, at least, it’s mostly because I only have one monitor so I have to fit both windows, the ref’s and the sketch’s, which makes me having to zoom in and out a lot. It’s not about how many times I zoom in and out, it’s more cuz when I zoom out to have better view of the whole, I loose accuracy in the stroke, and when I zoom in I loose perspective of the whole.

I’m posting some traditional sketches that took me pretty much the same time as the above and u can tell the difference. These took me about 30-40 mins each. U can check my gallery at DevArt; I have a couple that have some more work too it.

Thanks for your advice.
Cheers:beer:

Well…I’ve failed miserably to update this thread on a weekly basis…not that I have stopped sketching (not completly anyway) but I really haven’t been much on the mood for the post and reply thing due to personal stuff…

Anyways, here's a little video I uploaded on YouTube. It's nothing much, just trying to figure out Camtasia, n stuff. Still, I hope u enjoy:

Well, I found out, some time ago, that I could still export (openCanvas) event files from old .wpb files. Anyway, a couple of them are over a year old, the other two are more recent but they’re all ok, I guess. So, I hope u enjoy
