Sketchbook Thread of Ater

Hmm. This is a rather interesting for me.I truly dont know what to say, and most likely never will. I want to improve greatly and this website, has given me the determination to do so. and maybe with the help of others that are on this board I will be able to allow my creativity flourish into what I always wanted. this will of course be my personal things to do, and I hope I can get adjusted to coming on here as much as I can…Im rambling.blech.

Honestly NR43, this is where im stuck, I cant find a way for it to work, this image was mainly for improving shading and what not, and I cant find any way to make it work as of yet.any tips?

ater,

I would recommend firstly adding a gray layer behind your existing linework and shading - basically, kill the white any way you can. This will make the shading process infinitely easier. White makes everything look dark. You want to have a grey / neutral background so that you can work up in terms of your lights, and down the value scale in terms of your darks.

I highly recommend checking out the shading links in this thread:

Personal Sketchbook Primer and Tutorial / Workshop Guide

Especially take a look through the Spotlight / Skull Shading thread and the Skull Shading tutorial. I think that you will find that to be a great starting place.

Looking forward to seeing your updates!

When you feel you are totally stuck with a piece… try to let it go for a while… let it rest… for a day, a week, a month if you have to… work on something else and get back to it with a fresh mind…
chances are that you have learned something new by the time you get back to it… maybe it is just that what you needed to know to be able to continue

the shading exercises Rebecca says are a lot of fun and highly recommendable (actually that counts for any advise coming from her  )
