Sketchbook Thread of Amerasu

#41

Hi Amerasu, great thread you got here, with some amazing paintings. Nice to see your figure drawings here as well. My favorites are the bougereau and the redhaiored girl. Keep going!

SpiritDreamer - That’s a fabulous idea. I hadn’t thought of that. I’ll see what happens with my class this week, perhaps I’ll have some poses a little more interesting to work with. I just saw what you did with one of your life drawing pics… the lady near the edge of the cliff. Great idea!
Zephyri - Thank you! That Bouguereau took just about forever, lol.
batte812 - Thanks a lot for your comments! I’m heading over to your thread next

Lovely to see more of your work Amerasu! I’m envious of the life drawings because a lot of the drawing class I’m sitting in on is devoted to critique - so less actual drawing time, sigh. It’s great that you are getting the whole form on the page and starting to get the weight shift in the figures. One thing I might suggest experimenting with is line weight and using a bit more of an expressive line in areas where you feel confident enough in the form to really define it with a definitive line. Very much looking forward to seeing more!

Thanks a lot for the feedback Rebecca! It’s helpful as always so when I go back in a couple of days, I will work on line weight.

With the sketches from tonight’s session, I tried to get a little shading in. It normally takes me the entire 10 - 15 minutes to get the form ok so I rarely have time to shade but I must be getting quicker since I managed it tonight, lol. Ok… so it’s fairly crappy shading but it’s a start

Apologies for the bad pics as my sketchbook won’t fit in the scanner. I have to take photos.

There are my 1 minute gestures:

Hey Amerasu, some lovely figure drawings in here… and your confidence really looks like its growing, even from the posts on the last page, those last few longer poses have a really nice weight and light to them. Great stuff!

Thanks for the comments, guys! Much appreciated feedback

A few drawings from last night’s figure class. It was a very bad night… I just could not draw and could not get into it. I think I spent half my time doodling crap and nonsense on the sides of my sketchbook pages. I’ll post them here anyway since they’re not THAT bad, just don’t giggle too loudly.

Hopefully next session will be more productive

Hehe, it’s impossible to have a good drawing session every time  - but I think you’re too hard on yourself, I actually find that first drawing in particular to have a nice, easy quality to it - wish I had more lifedrawing myself, but the class I’m currently in doesn’t have a ton of time with a model, so I’m envious! Good to see your work, looking forward to more!

#52

great stuff Amerasu!
Is there a teacher around in life class? If so, get all the info out of him/her you can get when you are facing a problem (eg with a certain pose)

#53

My class resumed last night. I had a month break between life drawing classes. I didn’t do any life drawings inbetween either. I spent tons of time doing lots of illustrative type art but nothing for this thread really.

Here’s one from last night. Not the best I’ve done but ok for an off night.

I’ll a few more to post after the weekend.

#54

oops, double post

#55

Here are a few drawings from recent life classes.

#56

And some more…

Couple more from a recent class

#58

Nice drawings
How long are the poses?

#59

Hey, you have life drawing classes? I envy you
Those sketches are great - keep us updated.

NR43 - Thanks for the feedback. Poses are usually 10 - 15 mins. I’d love to have longer poses one day.

Maidith - Thanks too! Yep, I’m lucky in that a small art gallery in my city runs near constant life drawing classes year round and the classes are very small. There are only 5 of us in this one. I sign up for every one that I can.
