Simulating webcam filter in Photoshop

#1

OK, so Scott Robertson has a book called “Alien Race” in which he has a bunch of beautiful rendering of alien concept art. They way he gets the ideas for the heads is he holds various objects (seashells etc) in front of the camera on a MacBook Air and using the mirror filter in Photobooth positions the objects in various ways until he get a facelike symmetrical result, and then paints over it in Photoshop.

I’ve been fooling with it, but don’t have a Mac and Photobooth. I have a decent webcam, but all the mirror filters i can find only work up to 640x480.

I can of course work with a photograph in Photoshop. I duplicate the layer, flip it, and the with the top set to multiply or screen find a good result, then crop half of each layer, change the mode to normal, and merge.

Pretty clunky though. Is there some way in Photoshop I can freely rotate and move a mirrored high resolution image? Or some other progam? I have Painter and After Effects also…

Thanks, I’ve actually tried that one- it wasn’t really an improvement on my manual way. What I want is to see the mirror effect in real time- probably what I am really looking for is a high resolution video filter that will work on a webcam. Numerous searches have pulled up zilch…

However! On the same site as your link there is one called kaleidescope that does almost exactly what I was thinking. In a preview window I can adjust angle and spacing etc. Until I find the video filter that works on high resolution that will do. Thanks!
