simple white background

#1

Hi i am pretty new in rendering and really confused in creating a simple white backgroud for rendering a white plastic chair…

it should look like this… pretty simple… my problem ist that my raytrace shadows do not want to work like this and also i want to avoid a border edge in the back that is caused by my lighting everytime…

i think it is not much work actually but i am too stupid for this i think…my chair model is ready so i only need the background… could someone make me a backgoround like on the pic? that would be so great and i would save much time…

thanks in advance!

You’ll need to light it the same way it’s done in real life - very broad lights for soft shadows, and move your lights back far enough so they light the background in the same way. Google around for “studio lighting” or something like that for more info

There are two easy ways to get this effect. The simplest is probably a Use Background shader on the ground plane (with spec color and reflectivity set to black and zero, respectively). If the camera environment color is set to white then the shader just shows a white background but catches any shadows that are cast.

Alternatively you can use an ambient occlusion node with the output attached to a surface shader for the ground plane. The shadows will be generic occlusion shadows, and won’t match your lighting, but if your lighting is extremely soft it might be close enough.

In either case if your object has any reflective surfaces then you will probably need a reflection sphere or a fg environment sphere. Just make sure the primary visibility on whatever you use is turned off so that your white background will still show.
