I’m happy to release a free shader here, which is an implementation of “Reflection Model of Metallic Paints for Reflectance Acquisition”, an SIGGRAPH 2009 poster. It’s simple, fast, similar to mi_metallic_paint, Flake model is different than both mi_metallic_paint and mi_car_paint.
You can download the binary DSO http://ortholab.codeplex.com/releases/view/64849 , for Maya 2011 x86. You can compile it for your mental ray. If you found bug or have a suggestion please tell me.
