SimCloth & Bone in love because of XP

#1

after testing on the beautiful SimColth, I notice that i it won’t work together with object with Skinwd with bone, even though parent a proxy model won’t help also…, but I just discover a tricks to made simcloth and bone works together, thanks to XPressionist!

here are the setup, I use proxy model for the cloth collision, but instead of parent directly to the bones, I use some simple XP script to “attached” it to the bone, but sometimes, it is a bit difficult to get the correct axis of the proxy model to make same with the bone (in order to have the same Pitch Yae and roll), in this case… I parent the proxy model to a “proxy null”, where the pitch, yaw and roll are same with the bone, than using XP “join” them together… the set up is a bit complicated and time consuming (with more proxy model involve) but I think it worth a lot, since simcloth is a free plugin… thanks Igor

I try to upload some movie and the project file, but the broadband speed are affected seriously from the recent earthquake and too slow for me to upload anything… hopefully you guys getting the idea…

thanks!

and the sample movie (H264)

Outstanding Yhloon! I love this work around.

Hey

I cant see your movie or download your prj…

Thankssss

Hi Tomas,

I’ve check on the link again, it seems work quite well to me, please try again…

here are another one… movie

after test on simcloth all this week I notice simcloth is capable to perform a “character cloth” (wondering what is the correct word?) in a simple movement, bending a bone for more than 90 degree will cause the cloth intersection error occur most of the time.

this is a good news to all of us I think, imagine a free plugin vs $2,000 + syflex.

need to mention also, the key to achieve this is to “Zero” position of the proxy null first, move the proxy null to the position of the bone than parent the proxy model to the proxy null… or else the script will be to complicated for me to think of… in this way XP only control the rotation of the porxy null only

Loon!

Great job. I’m very pleased with your results. Keep it up!

Thanks Brian :), here is another sample movie

Hi, Loon
Very encourageing your experiments. How many polygons do you have in the legs and the clothes? i have been testing clothes in an human model but the high poly count produced prohibitive calculation times. I will test again with some low poly proxies.
Your tests looks pretty good.

Hi Felix,

all the proxy are very low poly, the cloths is 1208 poly, and output SubD 2 level for camera in simcloth, the actual model is the only hi-poly, 10304 poly.

the calculation takes about 15 minutes for 40frames, I didn’t time it, but should be close
and good luck to your test!

Hey,

Really good tests, but if Im not wrong its possible to see the Character “butt”…hehe

Any chance to fix it?

Thanksss

Tomas

 ha! I notice the butt also, i think adding more bones or increase the collision tolerance will fix it.
