I left A:M after 9.0/9.5, I felt really screwed after buying that upgrade. Constant crashes, broken features etc.
But I am thinking about getting 10.5. Please please tell me A:M is getting better and I can come back :hmm:

Max save your money and get a different app like C4D or LW.
I would wait to see if hash stays on track. 8.5 was pretty good then they made 9.0 and 9.5, you dont want to be in the same spot when 11.0 or 11.5 comes out.
I hear some people saying its much better but I’m going to wait awhile and see if hash stays with it.
My 2 cents
I’d disagree. 10.5 is the best version of A:M since v4 IMNSHO. I can understand the frustration of 9.0 but the foundation that it laid is very solid and very powerful.
I think that all 10.0 did was clean things up and add a few new features. 10.5 is really focusing on improving the core aspects of the program, the render alone is worth the upgrade IM(again)NSHO.
Dave, I don’t think you’ll ever be happy with Hash,
not enough buzzwords in it for you

OB! Dave,
Not true I was happy with AM and would like to be again but it will take more then one version that works well to get me to spend my money on it again.
I’m waiting and watching to see what they do over there at Hash.
You know when people get treated badly you cant expect them to jump up and support the people that treated them bad just because they say they changed, it takes time, and I’m will to give it time and see if hash has changed.
Dave
Hash made major changes to AM especially under the hood from 9.5 to 10. Its called growing pains. LW did this for the Mac with 6 to 6.5 and then to 7. Cinema4d did it with 6 to 7 then 8. See the pattern. I think 10.5 is the best they have done. Im traveling to NY just to see AM on OSX. Look back a few months-way back people were complaning about this and that. Now look around-those people are awfully quiet.
I think Hash has made changes that a bunch of people wanted-better renders-stable -things work- Better hair. I cant wait to see the Newtek crowd after Luxology releases their app. Thats going to be fun. Max. Dont forget the plug ins.
I bought Am with 9-yep-it was bad. Know what-10.5 is better.
My .02:thumbsup:
OK, the thing that will bring me back…
Have they dealt with the creases issue? does anyone have any renders from 10.5 I could see?
Bill Young posted some pretty nice crease free tests. I think its one of the things they are working hard on. It sucks that its such an issue after all these years but it does seem to be a priority.
I upgraded on monday and I’m pretty happy so far, we’ll see if I can get any actual work done before I consider myself fully satisfied (Currently I’m at the tinker, tinker, crash stage, and I’m assuming the crashes are mainly due to importing old models and chors)
My problem with hash was at the sales end though, not the software. The mess with the replacement CD in mid year really pissed me off, but on the good side it made me miss the 9.5 debacle too
I guess the problems that made Egginton go away are still there (does not play well with other children, sorry 3D apps, render issues, limited rez, etc…) so if you’ve managed to find another app. of choice you might want to stay put.
I don’t intend to upgrade blindly in the future but the reasons that brought me to hash in the first place still apply and this version seemed to have some features/improvements I could use. As long as this is true I’ll continue to upgrade
I would wait as well. I guess it depends on the work you wish to do with it. They’ll have to fix the modeler before I ever go back. I would at the very least look into other programs, if you haven’t yet. I find that after using LW and now Maya at work, it will be hard to return. There are aspects of AM I miss, though not badly enough to suffer through the many problems encountered whenever I open the app. It’s a shame because I have a couple of nice things uncompleted. Maybe I’ll give them to the community.

I decided to go back to “Raydream land” or “post Raydream land” It’s going to be that and probably Maya for me (since it’s what we use at work).
Not that I have really a lot of time right now with my hands full just coding a game.
People talk about how vastly improved 10.5 is and all but frankly, it still seems to me that it has a nice share of bugs, even if it’s stabler than 10.5.
Some talk about how “great 8.5 was” and I have to say, I do have 8.5 and I find it quite a buggy application.
Since Carrara solved apparently one of my #1 pet peeves that made me jump to Hash in the first place (a nice way to do texturing/decals on an object), and they still honor any version of Raydream to get a nice upgrade price, I’ll upgrade to them.
Moreover, Antoine Clapier (the CEO of Eovia which got the rights to continue developing Carrara) has been an incredibly accesible by the community and realy nice man to everybody, even loud diserters and always listens to his customers.
This is such a constrast with Hash that’s simply amazing.
If you are a “pro artist” and do this for a living I suppose you need to look at “industry standards” like Maya, 3DSMAx, and Lightwave but if you want an application on a budget consider Carrara 3.0.
Their renderer at version 2.0 was actually amazing and now they made it more amazing with version 3.0.
One thing that you won’t get in Carrar though, at least for now, is the great Hash’s character animation controls. If you need to do real pro character animation, I wouldn’t recommend it.
If you are doing stills or you need something like “DarkTree” - Carrara has a very powerfull texture shader.
Anyway, just wanted to voice one more option.
www.eovia.com is the page.
Hmmmmm, Carrara 3.0 looks quite amazing for the price. I searched for Carrara on google and I found ver 1.1 for only 31.95.

So if I decide to get 3.0 I can get it for the $229 upgrade price :applause:
