Short Walk Cycle

#1

Hey everyone

Just want some critques on a small walk cycle, this vid is nothing important it was just for me to quickly pratise when i was bored.

The Rig itself is broken in places like the hands for example, I dont think its been skinned properly and the shoulders only to rotate, not able to move them into position but yeah just have a quick look at it so I know in the future.

Hi Stacey

I could tell that you are fighting your rig. If getting feed back on animation is your intent, then animating on one of the many excellent free rigs out there would get you better feedback.

Disregarding the arms, I think you got the hang of basics there. Again, the broken rig is making it difficult to pinpoint errors in your animation.

If you want to carry on with that rig, i suggest adding a ball and toe rotation to the feet. Your pole vectors may be causing the wonky elbow, switch the arms to FK, you don’t need IK for this.

Cheers for the advise desmondying

I shall give that a go next time. Do you know any descent websites that have really good character rigs that can be downloaded for free? I would well appreciate it cos I cant seem to find any descent one.

Didn’t I see your post in 11secondclub.com before? the resources page there has great rigs. Norman and max are great close to human anatomy rigs, and morphy is mordern and comes with all the bells and whistles. But avoid moom, his face rig is awesome but the legs are not too good for walks. creativecrash.com is great place for rigs too.

Add more arc into the arms, you can tell they are just moving primarily in the z axis, i like the spring in the walk but it feels a bit too jolty almost like a robot with rusty pivot points. Try viewing your graph editor for the main hip translation and smooth it just a bit more. The feet take just a bit long to flatten on the ground but thats a quick fix. Great starting point, keep it up…
