The way Admiral Ra did it, is simple and smart. However how are us animators will get a resounding “mmmmmmmm” and “eeeeee” from that? The phenomns: P, B, M, E, T, S, C…these mouthings are difficult to pronounce properly. And we animators want it precise…heck I’m like that! Maybe at the beginning other animators won’t see that as a problem, but later on…it will be a finicky problem.
What about this Pixar version…but a simpler one? All Admiral Ra has to do … is work on that same grill area. Have them evenly separated. With the phenomns for: L…That means TaxiCab will have a tongue to roll that letter on. The M, B, P…the grills closest to the mouth opening will have to be bent/ nearly inside the closed mouth.
Of course he’ll have to unskin again. I hope that’s not a hassle.
Hey Loulu!
So…If i’m not wrong, you mean, take off the current bars (The 2 rods i’ve used as a mouth) and use the grills instead?
But then for the tongue, i would need another bit of geometry that looks like a tongue, right?
Ok I have finished Fredy. Its a simple rig with the ability to move his hat. He can walk and do what ever you need it to do. If there is something you like added or seee something that you thinck it should be improved let me know.
I have seem to manage to lose the link to the web site to be able to uploaded. So if someone can send that to me or posted here it would be great.
Right! Hmmmm…but what type of tongue would a TaxiCab can have? You know what go for something we can relate too: an ordinary tongue. Make sure it’s flexible.
nottoshabi: I’d love to help you by giving you the site. But last time I shared such information, Maronson said I shouldn’t have done that for the sake of security reasons. The best and safest person is obviously Maronson, since he’s the one in charge here. Just
e-mail him your dillemma.
I hope that’s not a problem.
omarhib: Welcome aboard the Pgymalion project! I hope you’ll have fun on Shot 13! This opportunity here might take you places. You may never know.
Edit: Admiral Ra: I hope that’s not a headache for you. Usually ideas sound simple put when put to paper…
I just hope is not a pain in the you know what…!
omarhib: Welcome to the project! We all look forward to working with you.
nottoshabi: I have e-mailed your FTP account information to you and my e mail address. if you ever get stuck and need my email address in a hurry it is on the Project web site on the contact page. You can get to the Project Web site from my forum signature. Thank you for the Freddy rig. Now I can look for an animator.
Loulu79 did the Maya 7 to Ascii file translation of the George Bernard Shaw model. Thanks Lou Ann!
We may have a rigger for the Higgins model soon, some one else will report in for the scene four background and there is a third George Bernard Shaw animator thinking about joining up. February is a short month and we have to pack a lot into it.
Right! Hmmmm…but what type of tongue would a TaxiCab can have? You know what go for something we can relate too: an ordinary tongue. Make sure it’s flexible.
Hmm…I guess i’ll go for a generic tongue.
It’s not really tough. Just have to find a way to make the grill work as a mouth without bad deformations.
Apparently, I stopped getting emails from this thread… lol… The forum thing must have unsubscribe me. Anyway, I uploaded another test version to the Pgymalion 2006.org website under animation/5_pub_fight/tests/scotsman_v3.wmv
omega3d: Very nice pose! The first shot shows agitation and the second is in your face. Nice job on placing the arm forward and occupying most of the screen. The sub text is “I want to overpower you.”
Theht: Very nice job. The Fancy Lady model is posted on the FTP site. That means we have completed milestone two. All 3d models are turned in. I’m going to ignore the fact that we are in a five milestone project and celebrate (at least until I type the last paragraph of this post.)
Rakile: Has posted two Taximeter animations on the FTP site and Mike Van Handel says we will be able to use them in the final DVD.
Status: I don’t have time today for a full report but I can summarize this way.
We need 4 maybe 6 models rigged. I say maybe 6 because Anthony Mcgrath is sick with Mono and I haven’t heard anything from Burkester for several weeks. The four unassigned models to be rigged are Fancy Man, Fancy Lady, Limousine, and Henry Higgins.
We have two models with possible problems: omarhib is having trouble with the George B Shaw file and the Englishman needs some finish work.
As soon as Admiral Ra and Loulu79 finish the rig on the Taxicab I can send that out to animation for Scene 4. The Preface is in varoius stages of animation. Scene two needs to have the Covent Garden Liza rig finished before anything can be assigned. We are waiting for Jamie to get back to us on that. I recently ask someone to animate shots 14, 22 and 25 using the Freddy model. I hope we will see an introduction post soon for that. Scene three will be the last one sent to animation. And of course, in the distant future, the Curtain Call. I guess we can animate that while everything else is in compositing.
Hey guys! I just sent an update of the rig to Mike. (It’s got a tongue now.)
Though, i’ve had some troubles doing the mouth shape from the grill itself.
Well, it’s a bit tough to exaggerate the shapes for the mouth with the grill, it looks pretty limited. And, i’m not sure if it’s gonna be good for animation. I’ll justpost an example of two shapes.
What do you guys think? Is it good enough for animation? If it’s alright, i’ll continue with the other shapes.
To tell you the honest truth I prefer this one. Unfortunately. Maronson gave me the “latest” one with the two extra mouth rods - the old one. But now I came into this forum and took a look at this brand new one…I like this one so far. I see you’re going to have a problem w/ pronouncing the letters M, B, P and so on however hmmm…
I have a suggestion. Hopefully this will make life a hell lot easier for you:
*Have the upper lip more protruded out…as in…um…say…it is model a bit bigger outward. If you look at your lips…the upper lip is usually protuding outwardly…more than the lower lip. This is why we can pronounce the M and the P properly (I have a little over-bite…I’m not sure about yours…but that’s what I notice about my mouth:D ).
Simple. But tricky. I wish I can see the difficulty on your end. I can see the difficulty in showing the teeth and tongue…hmmm…
*Why don’t you open the mouth a little bit more…not too big. You’ll hurt yourself w/ too much deforming. Just a wee bit. I hope that won’t kill you. And if it does…leave it alone.
And yes…whatever you’re doing w/ Taxi Cab…that will be the finishing product. Emotions…and everything you updated…are fine just the way they are. When you’re finished with TaxiCab…I’m sure it’s the real thing.
I have utter faith in you Ra.
Omega3d: This latest one of yours rocks! You did good man!
Edit: Maronson: I said this twice on your e-mail and I’ll ask you again (just in case this is the place you go first to): I wouldn’t mind re-modeling George Bernard Shaw - this one as a low poly. I’m studying him in the meantime. Would that lessen our dilemma here?
Jayezon is posting Rendered Frames on the FTP site for the cellphone scene. Tonight I finally got to see cell phone boy take the phone out of his pocket. Is that a cell phone in your Pocket?
I got an e-mail from Jamie Telford. He is almost done with the rig for Covent Garden Liza. Animators using the model will be using Character Sets.
On another subject, DaddyMack, Kemer2, and omarhib all report that the George B. Shaw model is not responsive. It is impossible to animate as it is.
Loulu79: I was hoping we could do something like smooth the model or delete history and get some relief. If you want to completely remodel it will have to be rerigged also, right? Maybe that is what we need done. Can you use the present model and remove polygons and wind up with something workable? Which is faster?
Omega3d: I sent the Englishman model to Flying-Hawk. He is looking at it.
Admiral Ra: The Taxi’s tongue is cute. Your newest render looks more like a mouth than the rods we were using. It will be easier to fool the audience with the more natural mouth than with the rods. If you have time to go for it, do it.
ALL ANIMATORS: During the week I will be upgrading your FTP privileges to see all scenes. I’m doing that so you can help one another. Not every one has a server to post their work on. Our FTP site can be used to exchange clips and tests. This will get more important as we get to the end of the month. I’m expecting a lot of work posted then.
Nottoshabi: Nemirc is having some trouble understanding Freddy’s Rig. He has to do lip synch. I showed him where the Jaw control was but I don’t know any more than that. Maybe he will post some specific questions here.
I’ll do my best to even getting to toggle in and tweak it. :argh: :argh: :argh: I’ll temporarily get rid of the hair…maybe that’s the obvious problem. I’ll have to unskin too.
Um…just to let you know…well, confession: I am working on the Englishman right now. Is it okay for me to finish off tweaking his head? Because I also realized the Englishman’s head also has too many polycounts for animators to do a decent facial rig. I’ll just finish it off and put it back.
