Short Scenes: Pygmalion Computer Graphics Project

Cheers Mike, that’s good to hear. You can’t have a fancy man without a fancy lady.

Here's the finished model (he looks kind of sinister because of the post-processing):

I just need to model the cane and he’ll be done.

BTW, did you want me to do the texture work? I don’t really have any more time but if it’s important then I’ll follow through.

Cheers,
Nate

PS - nice anim Rakile, it works well with the sound.

Okay, here’s the close-up of CGL and TaxiCab. I think I’ll put CGL in the front. That way we’ll see both the expressions better.

I hope the above link won’t cause any qualms or upsets…if so please let me know.

Edit I forgot to tell you Nat…very good and veeeery quick job at the modeling. Well Done!

Theht: Welcome aboard and thanks for volunteerig. Both you and Nathellion are saving the lives of the formal couple. Thanks for being their hero and a chance at life.

Theht: Welcome to the Project! We all look forward to working with you. Don’t worry about your age, you are not the youngest memeber of the Project. (To see that young man’s work, search for the ladies powder room) And of course most of you have a long way to go before you will be the oldest (I was born in 1942). As 1.8XL put it recently, its not your age that matters in the computer graphics world. (Sherwin, I am still having fun with your “old man” comment! LOL)

Loulu79: It is easier to see Liza’s face if she is sitting in the front but it sort of messes with the story if we do that. This is the first time she has ever ridden in a taxi. She has seen “rich people” get into the back so that’s what she would do naturally. The close ups of Eliza’s face will give time for the audience to see her expressions. All we need now is a rigged body so she can roll down the right window before she says goodbye to Freddy and do other things while she is riding. The Medium shot of her in the back seat is actually a close up of the Taxicab. It gives that character equal screen time.

Nathellion: I think we don’t have to texture the Fancy couple. They always appear together so they will look to be the same style (painted plastic puppets). Just as soon as the models are done, I go looking for a speed rigger. Someone who can put in the minimum bones. These characters don’t talk, they just walk. I want them in the show but we don’t have many resources left. Unless the next post is from a texture painter who has 7 days or evenings to donate to the project, we just go forward with what we have. Nate, when you are ready, contact me for posting instructions.

Wanted to check about the subtitles - I’m thinking that the ‘txt’ version shows up on the phone screens and the ‘English’ version is like a translation that shows up underneath?

Sorry for all the confusion over this section, I think I’m sorted in my head now about what video and what frames go where  and assuming i’ve got that bit right, I just have the subtitles to do.

Amy : )

Way to go with the model, Nate! Looks great. Great turn around time as well.

Amy,

With regard to your last:

Wanted to check about the subtitles - I’m thinking that the ‘txt’ version shows up on the phone screens and the ‘English’ version is like a translation that shows up underneath?

The current clips that you have been working with were set up as references for physical positioning and sound track synchronization. We will be doing the final renderings using Adobe Premiere to do multiple video layers. In the final set, the layers (top to bottom) will be:

Track 3 Subtitles (where needed)
Track 2 Animations
Track 1 Background

When you make your final animation clip, it would be simplest for me to use chroma keying, meaning you could provide a flat, monochrome background (in a contrasting color) to your animation. There has been some discussion about generating the animations as a sequence of PNG images, which is supposed to provide a more professional result. I will need to buy some software to handle PNGs, and have no experience with the format, but assume it would be workable.

Regards,

Mike

Loulu79, Theht, opreska - I’m very glad you guys like him.

Theht, I’m looking forward to the Fancy Lady…if she turns out as good as your other projects the two will be quite the Fancy Couple.

@ Mike A. - Send me an email w/ posting instructions when you get the chance.

amy_517: The English translation is on the sound track. The subtitles were meant to show the audience what was on the small cell phone screen. The font on the cell phone is large enough to read. We may not need the sub titles. It looks like the messages will be readable even in the split screen.

mikevanh: Amy_517 volunteered to do the compositing for this scene. So she is the one who needs high quality video and possibly a video layer with the sub titles if we use them. Jayezon is suppling the rendered frames in the form of Targa files. Each frame has just the animation objects and no background. He already has posted three packages of frames on the FTP site and Amy_517 has looked at them.

Nathellion: The information will be in your email box tonight.

Maronson: Oh well…yes, I will leave her alone then. I wonder when I could get that rigged body…I’m waiting and have finished the shots. Nobody seems to be having the time to look at the avi…or maybe so but not right now…? …but it’s there.

Nathellion: I bet it’ll take you at least 2 1/2 days for the Fancy Lady…time yourself (lol).

eheh: I remember clearly that Theht was the last poster last time I was here…so I should’ve come after him…!?!

#791

OK, I think I get it. : )

I’m going to make a low-res preview of what I’ve got so far (can’t do it until probably Sat. unfortunately) and post it for you all to check that it’s all in the right places. Am I to upload it to the server, or host it myself? Either is fine.

Amy : )

#792

Hey guys still working on Fredy. Not to far away, shoting for monday to hand it in.

Thanks for your patience…

#793

We collected three posts on the FTP site tonight. Nathellion: posted The Fancy Man, Admiral Ra posted the rigging for the taxi cab, and Opreska posted the limousine model. Is there someone who can take a look at the taxi rig and make comments about it?

amy_517: Not everyone has passwords to the FTP server. It would be best if you can post it. I’m down to about 6 Meg left on my personal Comcast account.

Loulu79: I’ll send out requests for delivery estimates this weekend. We still don’t have our major characters ready to animate. Eliza and George B Shaw are close. Maybe we will get some good reports this week.

#794

Well I took a good look at it and tested it. The rigging’s done nicely. Well done Admiral Ra.

But the expressions are simple. Do we have the time to add in a few more? I don’t think so.
But isn’t the Taxicab going to have a mouth to talk? That’s what I saw in the storyboard.

I’d say Admiral Ra: concentrate ONLY on the lip syncing. Is there going to be lip syncing?

I think it’s fair for Taxicab. If you don’t have any more time…we will have to leave it alone and move on. If we prolong this … the rest of the team…the animators, compositors, video editors…will have nightmares in hitting that March deadline unnecessarily.

As for me… well…I want to use the latest TaxiCab and do another playblast for others to see it.

Maronson: how far is Jamie the rigger on CGL? Would you know? Is he close to the finish line? Next week is the last week of January. Too close for me to promise my deadline…

#795

Loulu79: OK, we have the start of a good rig for the Taxicab. What emotions are missing that we specifically need for Taxi’s lines? We don’t want Admiral Ra to spend time working on something that we will not use. We may have time to do this. Let’s not give up yet. We can make a model substitution later and continue animation.

Hello Loulu!

I just realised about the mouth bit. Kind of slipped my view because i didn’t notice the mouth in the model. (Grah! Looks at storyboards again)

Hmmm…Well, any suggestions? The whole grill area is going to be the mouth? Or is going to be the strips of the grill?

Sorry if i’ve caused any problems!

#797

Admiral Ra: Can we add a couple of metal strips in the mouth position to the Grill? That might be easier than tearing apart what is there.

#798

Sure, that would make things alot easier!

Metal strips like this? (Refer to the attachment)

Hmmm…Just wondering, how do you want the strips to “talk”. Like, doing the “Aah”, “oooh” phenomes will be ok. But something like “Mmm” will be tough (Any suggestions?). I would reckon “Eee” will be the same as “aaah”, shape wise.

#799

Admiral Ra: I think this could work fine if we place a faint pink background with a hint of tongue red color in the center behind the metal strips. If the taxi had its “lips” slightly open when it wasn’t talking, the MMM phoneme would look different.

EDIT: Maybe the relaxed mouth should have a slight curve to it rather than starting straight.

Hi all

Here’s my very lo-res quicktime clip here, so you can check it over that i’ve got everything in the right place. I can easily add the subtitles if you decide you want them.

Thanks

Amy
