short film WIP

#1

short animated movie, WIP.
Please take a look and perhaps you can give me some advices.
You can see here a 2D animatic of the movie.
Fishing lesson

It is looselly referencing Sisyphus, on the other hand is basically about pride, about chasing some irrealistic goals and even after one escaped some grave danger(largelly because of the aforementioned goals), never learns the lesson and starts over.

Everything about this movie will be kept as simple as possible, I can’t hassle with it too much, unfortunatelly.
So…this is pretty much all I can say at the moment.

Well I really cant comment on anything because you didnt say whether it is finished or not and what you are planning to do.

If it is finished and this is going to be a final look of it then I must say that in 2D animation the fluid movements are essential. You just created few images and move them around to create an illusion.
It is only my opinion so its your choice whether to take it into account or not.

It will not be 2D animation, this is only the storyboard put together in a clip to check the timing and the overall flow.
Think about it as a sketch for the visuals and for the time.
For an animatic, I probably went a bit too far.
So basically my concerns at the moment are staging(camera position) and shot lenght/timing.
In a conclusion: it is far from done, In the next few days I will model texture and rig the main characters.

Well You clearly didnt say anything about it being a storyboard or about it being a concept for a 3D Animation.

Sorry for being too vague. I wrote in the title of the clip and I said in my initial post it is a 2D animatic of a short film. Now I see it can lead to some confusion; my apologies once more.

So I write here the scope of this and where I am with it.
The finished piece will be a 3D animation short film.
The clip mentioned above is a 2D animatic, which basically means it is the storyboards on steroids, thus still a rough sketch of the staging the timing of the shots and the editing. Far from being final, yet enough to iron out mistakes and allowing improvements while it is simple. This is where we are right now and while I am waiting for suggestions i started to make the characters (model, texture, rig).

I’d say for an animatic, its not far enough! but different productions have different requirements of how an animatic should be.

There are some shots that feel too long like Sc3Sh2 or Sc4
Also some crossing of the axis line at Sc6Sh2 to Sc7Sh1
The shots sc3 sh8-9 are not very clear to me, I get the general meaning but why fade to white?

For now, I suggest you to act all the actions out in camera and make sure your acting choices are solid. then cut a live action animatic with your 2d animatic. This way you can know how long certain actions will take and how much time to linger on a close up etc.

Lastly, a 3 min production is very long, easily 12 months of work for a solo reel. Assuming you are targeting a rate of 5-7 seconds of animation per week.

Thanks for the response.
I plan to add in some more drawings, but at the moment I really want to move forward and leave the polish when I see a lot more done.
You are right when you said about those shots being too long.

The fade to white is to suggest things instead of showing. I have to simplify a lot if I want to see it trough, so I chose this when I considered it would be way above my skill level or I couldn’t find a solution how to place the camera at that moment. Looks like my insecurity is noticeable.

Not sure if I agree with you with the 12 months time-frame, animation wise this piece is not that demanding. I chose something without speech intentionally. i want to do it simple and right than complicated and awkward.
