Short Film: TimeOut
Hey Unit,
I’m afraid i won’t be much of a help afterall,
I’m trying to make a switch from Max to Maya using the trial version to see if i can get along with Maya
After recovering from the food coma of the hoilday, I was able to finish about 90% of the Mom rig. The last 10% will happen when I do the animation test.
Here is the face moving around.

The plan for this week. I need to finish the title sequence and the first scene. That way Yiannis Kranidiotis can start to compose the music and Mark can do the sound effects. I feel I need to kind of step up the pace since my projected time to finish is coming close (February- not going to happen).
The good thing is I finally feel that the world and charcters are coming to life.

Sorry, you can’t help. But if you feel, you have a hold of maya you’re always welcome.
Hi there,
I noticed you were looking for some effects artists? i also see someone has already replied but am just letting you know that if you need someone else as well, i’d like to help. I myself love effects work and thats what i also want to do career wise. I have just graduated from university and currently building a portfolio of effects work.
cheers,
stace
niotxx,
I can definately use the help.
Can you send me some of your previous work? I just want to see what your strengths are.
My email [youngvo@gmail.com](http://youngvo@gmail.com)
Thanks.
Nothing too much to talk about. I finished the title sequence. I didn’t finish the first scene. Way more work than expected. Plus, the holidays are not a good time for work. I will finish by next week.
Another thing is the quality of the animation may need more time. Going through my animation and other animators’ work is not easy. Trying to figure out if that is enough time for the character to come through, is that the right acting choice.
Enough of my complaining.
As usual, I welcome any comments.
Thanks.
Hi All,
I don’t want to post any of the animation that I’m working on since I think you’ve all seen enough of scene 1 already. Here is an explosion from Chase Cooper, he feels it is about 50%. I think it’s pretty good for 50% (maybe 55%).
I suggest you right click and save this link to your harddrive so it will be less choppy. Remember WIP.

As usual, I welcome any comments.
Thanks.
These pass couple of weeks have been frustrating. As I am putting together scene 1, trying to figure out the camera movements, transitions and the animation. I felt overwhelmed.
Has any other project leads feel that?
My main frustration is quality of work. What I means is keeping a high standard with limited time… I could go on for pages on end but I will stop here.
I did finish a rough cut of the scnene. I’ll post maybe a shot next week.
People on the team I emailed the rough cut. Please email me your thoughts.
As usual, I welcome any comments.
Thanks.
I know just what you mean, I go trough the exact same thing when I’m putting together scenes for my project.
I guess in my case my only savior is that I don’t really care about an exact deadline.
I’m more focused on quality then speed. But I feel the same way.
All I can say is keep chipping away at it and it does not always have to be perfect.
I should try to take my own advice sometimes  I probably would get more done :hmm:
If you like send me a copy of the rough cut, and maybe I can see if I can help with something ?
chipping away at it is a good suggestion…slow but steady.
I get feeling overwhelmed too sometimes, especially when it’s time to start rendering. Managing all the files and keeping it all organized… it works out in the end, but it’s alot of work that most people on the team never really realize I think…so it adds a bit of pressure when you think the rest are wondering why you are taking so long.
I am glad to hear that I’m not alone in the madness. :buttrock:

“All I can say is keep chipping away at it and it does not always have to be perfect” but I wish it could be. “keep chipping away” I think is sound advice. I will send you the rough cut next week, once I finish making some changes.
softdistortion-
"feeling overwhelmed too sometimes, especially when it's time to start rendering"-:argh: man I haven't even tried tackling that monster yet. I might have some questions for you, when I enter that domain. btw your project looks really good.
The animation is done. What will be next is composing the music, sound effects and detailing the enviroment. We can actually start doing rendering tests.
Here is a shot from scene 1.

I’ll start texturing the kid character this week and make changes to scene 1 (depending on critiques).
As usual, I welcome any comments.
Thanks.
Nice work! ![]()
The feet seem to slide a bit, but I think that is the angle of the camera making some look less like full steps?
Hey guys,
I haven’t posted in awhile. Buying a house and about to move.
I did get a chance to texture the character (not easy). I should be faster the next time around.

There are things I hope to add later, like specular maps and maybe some shaders. Once I learn how to hook then up.
This a WIP but any suggestion will be appreciated.
I just want thanks to my friend Lynx for answering my annoying questions.![]()
As usual, I welcome any comments.
Thanks.
I have just moved but still unpacking. Finally back on track though.![]()
Here are pics of a first pass at one of the enviroments.

The Artist is Manny Laguatan (Awsome work).
On my plate, I’m working of lighting the kitchen and animating the mom.
As usual, I welcome any comments.
Thanks.
“TimeOut” is still alive!
After personal issues (puppy), work and people on the project who were not able to finish, I am now back on track.
Scene one: animation is done, enviroment is almost done, music is being composed. Rendering has started.
Here are two screen grabs (from maya) of the mom character textured.
It has been hard trying to pull this off. I guess I just have to keep chipping away at it but having this forum is a great motivator. Seeing BOY1DA, softdistortion and other’s work is inspirational.
Here is a quote from Milt Kahl that is keeping me going.
"… to be a good animator, then, you have to be a jack-of-all-trades. I don’t mean to say that I’m all these things, but I try hard. I got accused over the years of being a fine draftsman. Actually, I don’t really draw that well. It’s just that I don’t stop trying as quickly. I keep at it… "
As usual, I welcome any comments.
Thanks.
Well I’m glad I can be some sort of inspiration, because I know we all can use some from time to time.
You have done some real good work so far, so if you need a real good source of inspiration…
Just look back at how far you came to get you to this point. ![]()

Rendering and lighting… all I can say is that it’s hard. I hope to finish my master light set this weekend.

Thanks man. I just got to keep at it.
I admire your perseverence, it’s really great work and i’m looking forward to more progress, best of luck!.
