No problems Ross… I will stick all of the footage on all of the DVD’s just to be safe. I’ll catch you tomorrow.

Cheers. Daz

Hi, I still think we need some 3D artistes/Fusion/Particles Buffs on board. I have been thinking about extra little layers to improve upon the quality/realism of our window composite.

Is there anyone out there who can help out on the following:

  • Little patches of steam/fingerprints on the window (dry watermarks and so on?)
  • Another person to help out on rain collision so we have rain drops running down the window (it would be best if we had 2 ppl on this for safety)
  • A light source that can be reflected in our window
  • Moving clouds for our cityscape matte

If you know the basics of Fusion/Combustion/3DS Max (particle systems etc…) give it a crack. There are loads of tutorials out there. I have links to a few (available upon request).

RelaxoRy once said: ‘It’s all about Multiple Passes’ :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks.

Being the compositer on this shot I shall tackle all of these areas - rain, clouds, reflection passes etc… When I recieve the material I can better evaluate things.

Sorry for my lack of participation but I’ve started a new job. I hope to have settled by next week.

#45

That’s brilliant news Ross. I am sending the material tomorrow (like I said) so you should recieve it on Fri/Sat. I look forward to seeing the initial work.

RelaxoRy, no worries mate. I look forward to seeing you get involved again. What is the new job (if you don’t mind me asking. Anything exciting?)

Cheers.Darrell

Hi Wizdoc, I still haven’t got your address. Do you want a copy of the DVD? I have decided to put the full shots on the disc instead of trimmed down versions. This is just in case we have to make some weird editing decisions at a later date.

The Office Shots are:
Wide Shot (1.07Gb)
Close-Up Shot (745.8mb)

Cheers. Darrell

#47

Ross, did you recieve the Uncompressed Material on DVD today?
I sent it by Special Delivery so you should have.

Cheers mate.
Darrell

#48

Yep, I recieved them ok thanks.

First thing I want to touch on is the camera jitter in plates 1-3. At the moment, leaving them the way they are is too much, I really think they need stabalizing and smoothed out! Infact, I did this with plate 3 and it looks way better.

Another thing is, which rain map and motion plate would you prefer me to use? - I assume thats all up to me anyway…?

Later…(with more questions)

#49

Sure thing (I was expecting this, our D.O.P likes to keep things interesting!)

  1. Sure, I definately think the shots need to be stable too.
  2. It is entirely your choice on the rain.

It’s whatever fits best at the end of the day. We are just trying to re-create reality and choices need to be made in order to meet that. Do what you feel can add to the creative/realistic portrayal of those shots.

Cheers Ross, fire with all the other questions when you have got time.

Hey Darrel, maybe you could help me scour out some decent window frame images…

If you look at the first attatchment, thats the style I’m looking for - modern, sleek and black office window frames. Obvioulsly, I will require one with a straight on view for the ‘moving plate’ and one at an angle for the ‘dialogue plate’ (thats how I pictured that one, at an angle - what about you?..see second attatchment)

Ideally, they should be the same frame and at a decent resolution for obvious reasons…

#51

That’s all good stuff Ross. I will speak to our photographer (2moro/Monday) to see if we can get some high-res pics of these kinds of window frames. I like the darker/grey colour best.

The window at an angle has got to be quite sharp because we have got no reflection plate of Emma.Could you just mirror the main plate as a reflection?

Cheers.
Darrell :bounce:

PS: The Director originally intended it to be a huge glass wall without frames as such. Just a one foot white wall below the window (they do exist). Do you think this could work as just a sheet of glass?

#52

If you want it without frames then thats ok… I just thought having them present would emphasize that there was actually meant to be glass there - I can always produce two versions for you to choose.

Any photo’s would be excellent, its been such a pain finding any that even come close… I’m just hoping this all stands up on tv.

Later.

#53

Both versions would be cool. I’ll get the photos as soon as I can.
I agree about the frame showing the glass is there, but the little details should do that too. Like a striplight reflection in the glass and rain collision running down the window. Maybe the depth of field outside the window and the little fingerprints/condensation/steam on the glass. There are a lot of little things that could really sell the shot.

I think it will look as good as we can possibly get it on TV. You and I can only do our best. It will be a bonus if it is mega real. Have you done any work on it yet? If so, can I see a few stills so I can think about the progress and if there is anything else we may need to add. Cheers.

Darrell

#54

Hey Darrell, do you have a higher resolution still of that matte painting you did? …its quite small to say the least.:wise:

With web delivery, you can get away with it …broadcast will most likely kill it. I’m being very concious of up-scaling.

#55

Sorry Ross, that isn’t the matte painting (it’s just a test pic off the net). I have only just got the photographs back today that I am using for the cityscape matte. I have to take them in to town tomorrow morning in order to get them scanned (as high res as possible) and then I will upload them for you.

Soz about that, minor point that I completely forgot to mention.:scream:
Cheers. Darrell

#56

Ah, I remember now…completely passed me by. What kind of view is it?

#57

It is almost exactly the same with the building in the foreground on the left hand side of frame except it is London and not Chicago. The clouds aren’t very exciting at the moment though.

D

#58

I’m sure I can liven them up a bit. Some simple movement should do the trick…

#59

That would be very cool, anything to sell the shot.

There is nothing else outside the window that would be moving which is good aswell. We got some pics with the Thames in and I just thought what a nightmare that would be to make it move and look good. So I have selected a few of the simple images that match the existing test pic.

Darrell :buttrock:

#60

Yeah, I’ll insert the odd light in aswell just to give the appearance theres something actually happening out there. The way I’m thinking of it, the sequence takes place on a dark afternoon… what are your thoughts? Visually, its better for me.
