Shirow Project Book#3 Side-Mission

Re the animation, yes it is real time, like a video game.

MotionBuilder allows you use input controllers - keyboard mouse, even joysticks to drive your characters once they are properly set up.

To allow greater control and percision we mapped the main Hips control to the mouse so you can “mouse in” the big motions> hip/body which then ripple down via IK to adjust the legs etc.

The Fuchi butt has damping on it to allow it to bounce around while you are mousing the main hips motions, so you get some free animation from that little addition. The rest of the body parts are mapped to the keyboard.

So the way we designed it to work is alot like working with audio recording…you do your main pass tracks then overdub the extra parts until you have the final composition.
So for the Fuchi, the hand motions, grip twirls etc are overdubbed after the main body track is done.

A future release we have coming in late Jan early Feb will show a bit more…

TEAM-The Fuchi clip got some promo on one of the LW forums>

This is the LW forum we got the comments I posted above.
Decent crew of guys doing some quality work in LW.

Thanks to Cobra for the heads up and support.

Softdistortion & the other folks that worked on this project:

I haven’t been able to view the clip yet. Download is painfully slow (even for the YouTube version http://softdistortion.com/PROMO/FUCHI/fuchi_intro.html). Which is not going to help if/when this gets a frontpage. BOY1DA sent me the links, but if I can’t even view the darn thing how are you expecting 1000s of new viewers to experience your work?

I also can’t plug a post number in a large thread, so if you want new visitors to get to the point of your finished clip, then you’re going to have to:[ol][]Start a new thread[]Or edit the first post of this thread[/ol]When you have these problems worked out PM me again.

#5249

Thanks Kirt for acknowledging my PM. I was hoping but not really expecting any response to it.

Softdistortion… well you heard the man.

If you do proceed as Kirt mentioned don’t forget to
put some kind of documentation of how the real-time rig works.
Like a video or still screen captures of the interface . That is just too kool!
I think many people may overlook that because of the pretty pictures.
I always think that the technical guys don’t get enough credit
for the work that they do behind the scenes to get all the pretty pictures to look good.

Well good luck !

#5250

Thanks for posting Kirt. I haven’t had any trouble downloading the clip at all, so I’m not sure how we can fix that but your other suggestions are certainly doable ( he says looking towards SD)

BOY1DA - your support is always appreaciated :).

#5251

odd,
I have no trouble accessing it from either home or at work.

#5252

BOY1DA- Thanks.

will try to get some of your suggestions into the info.

#5253

Just watched both clips the other day…Speechless

Sllink- I can’t remember if you said don’t post this…so you have to chew me out me later if you did.
Let me know how things are going either way. Do you still need those building backgrounds?

This is Sllink’s vidclip for the animation he’s got been working on.

The Feb releas is coming along. Some of you already know what it will be, for the rest as usual… just a teaser for you

#5257

Will do Sllink.
I’d grab it now and reply, but link is not working…no worries, I’ll dig up the login info and go in to the FTP.
Will let you know later today.

#5258

wow…Animation is very nice looking.
I can see that would take a while to render.

The only things I would look at are the surface bump and the puddle edge.

If it isn’t running water the surface would be smooth and have high reflection.

For the edges- edges facing your eye would be a bit darker than the main surface area where it meets the floor edge and brighter on parts facing away from your eye.

Take a cookie sheet and pour some tap water into it and then look at it form the angle you have the camera set at in the shot.

Good to hear from you -
Hope that helps

#5259

Hi sllink, I’m having trouble downloading the second clip - I keep getting a corrupted file. Any chance of a re-upload.

#5260

HERE’s the latest clip Sllink had linked…not sure whats up with the other one…gotta check the folder when I get to it.
