Shirow Project Book#3 Side-Mission

#4821

Man, the stuff just keeps getting better and better around here. Very inspiring

I get a little traffic on my site so I hope you guys dont mind but I plugged the project and used a few images from this thread.

Just let me know if it’s alright…if not I’ll take them down

Regardless, keep up the good work fellas.

Thanks SD!

Im standing by on the model I will give it another day.:bounce:

Sllink,
I’m having ā€œfunā€ with the rig for the landmate, of course I forgot about rigging the inner arms.
For the GMan - we didn’t use the inner (pilot) fingers to drive the outer hands, which made the constraints less of a hassle as we didn’t need one per bone per finger.

(You know what I’m going to ask don’t you…) :stuck_out_tongue:

Is it too much of a ā€˜travesty’ if I swap over the inner arm ā€œglovesā€ for some simpler geometry so we don’t have to drive the inner fingers, just the hand position / rotation.

If it’s critical that the model stays as is fair enough, (I’ll just send you the bill from my therapist  ).

I’ve also realigned the inner arms as they need to be in ā€˜t-poes’ stance, and the strut/wing thingies on the back as they also will need to be driven by the rig / constraints (I’ve added one bone per wing thingy and one to lock the main part of the back pack as per the G-Man.

The overall appearance woun’t be affected, (I’ve created a copy anyway so the original is intact), but the removal of having to make some considerable additional constraints.

Unleess someone knows of a way to avoid that?

KM- wow… thanks!
Who could ask for such flattering stuff to be taken down  …if you want to…I’d say go a bit further and link the higher rez images, you can run em off your server if you like.

Thanks again

Sllink- roger that

Colkai- …I feel the pain…oooooooooooy! :argh:

#4825

Hey no problem Soft, glad you approve. Once I get home from work I’ll edit it to reflect the hi-rez images

Keep up the good work.

#4826

It’s deja-vu all over again :stuck_out_tongue: :wip:

#4827

No Problem Bud! Do what you think is best without loosing your wits. We are not as young as we use to be. :scream:

#4828

Young??? Hmmm nope, ya lost me bud. :stuck_out_tongue:

Ok, I shall cheat, I’ll leave a ā€˜full handed’ version in case I find a way to streamline the process too.
The rig looks rather funky due to the way the parts join together, once it’s done I may even look at building a pure ā€˜mech’ version (pivots / layers) and seeing if I can drive it using Maestro2. However, that’s for another time, meanwhile, I shall press on with the setup using our normal ā€œG-Manā€ procedure.

#4829

Ummm Im sorry I couldnt help it.

#4830

Hehe, no worries, just having a ribbing with SD, more to do with MB than anything.
One I’ve done the housework and the garden today, should have time to look at it.

(Ahh, the ā€˜joys’ of home ownership :p)

#4831

Sllink- hehe…nice…now I gotta think to find another for AJE… :scream:  .
FTP when you get time.

#4832

Will Do:thumbsup: sorry about that its just that one thing led to another and the next thing you know…

#4833

Hi Team,

It’s good to pop in and find a hive of activity. I’ve been beset by problems finishing a current project so I haven’t delivered what I’d promised. So no more promises, just a hope that I’ll be done sooner (in days) rather than later. I’m sorry I’m holding progress on the fuchi clip .

#4834

Sllink- hehe…you could make that a new LW advert. I sat down and had a model done…you make it sound easy.

Donshole- hey, it’s ok, I’m just glad you are still alive. Was gonna send out a search party if we didn’t hear from you this weekend. We’re in casual mode for a bit so no worries. :buttrock:

#4835

Sorry SD… lol
Moving this weekend… still don’t have the comp up and running.
Fire up another one that you need done… I’m still kickin’

Cheers,
AJE

#4836

doneShole-No worries, been there, done that. Life happens and as your tag says "Whether you do or don’t, time will pass." Im quoting this in a good way nothing stands still. The Shirow project will be here when you are ready and Im sure your gonna blow our sox off.

#4837

SD- I have uploaded the Dropship redo to my FTP. I hope its what you needed feel free to tweak it. Im sure I didnt get all the nooks and crannies that may have been on the original model but I tried.

#4838

Of that you can be sure.

I’m hoping to have something ready myself soon, I’ve ā€œabandonedā€ the fake-rig setup for he landmate. When I looked over my notes again, the only reasonfor using a fake rig over constraints was if we need at some point to drive the inner arms without driving the outer arms. I’m not sure we’ll ever have a shot where that is the case.

I’ve gone with a couple of relational constraints which allow me to adjust the offset of the lims so it doesn’t get twisted due to the difference in rotations of the inner and ā€˜main’ arms. I’m also going to put in a scaling constraint so the inner arms don’t sweep as much as the outer arms, we can then adjust this factor to suit, we can even do it on a scene by scene basis.

As it stands, I’m just in the process of finalising the constraints and hope to have a walk test ready in the next day or two. :wip:

#4839

You can have two independent characters in 1 model. You’ll need separate hierachies as you already do for the original landmate. Characterise each one. Then parent (with parent constraint)the FK hips (yellow effectors) of the ā€œinner arm characterā€ to whichever part of the control rig of the ā€œouter armā€ character you think is best.
The key here is to make sure that the IK reach for the ā€œinner arm characterā€ is set zero for all its effectors, so that it is in pure FK mode.

#4840

Yeah, that’s more or less what we used for the G-Man, a heirarchy as a second character, btu for what we are doing, I think ā€œsimpleā€ constraints are easier and faster to instigate and control.

I do intend to look more into secondary characters, but if we are only following, I’d almost be tempted to leave the inner arms then just set up some expressions in LW once the main motion has been done. In fact, I may do a test run doing just that for comparision.

As regards the second heirarchy, the fake pilot we’ve used in the past was comprised of markers, if we were to import a model with secondary limbs, would we need a whole second skeleton?
