Shape Layer Mask Problem...

Hi Guys,

I have a shape layer of an ellipse with a gaussian blur effect added to it.
I’d like to apply a mask to a section of it. (so I can’t see the ellipse colour)
but when I create / draw a new mask, the edges of the mask knockout seem to blurred
as well. I can’t work out where the problem is?
Could someone advise please?

Shape layer items are treated like any other pixel content by normal effects, hence any “masking” inside them has no effect. Likewise, conventional masks are evaluated before effects. So the behavior is normal. You will have to use matte modes to get what you want, most likely.
