Shadow artifacts

#1

Hello everybody,

I am using Lightwave 8.3 and still having troubles with raytraced shadows.
Here is an example.

The mesh is extremely simple and there are neither disjointed points nor non-planar polygons; just a couple of n-sided polygons, selected in the following picture.

Here is a render of the object, using 3 point lights.
Shadows are generated as if the polygon at the top was disjointed from the rest of the mesh.

I just cannot understand why this happens. If I triple the entire mesh, the issue disappears, which makes me think Lightwave has issues with n-sided polys, but if so, there would be other users complaining about this.

Am I doing something wrong when modeling?

Thanks a lot for yr help,
Giacomo

Looks like there is a crack in your object. Triangulate it to see where the missing vertex is maybe. It’s been years since I rendered n-gons.
