Sfx?

Maybe I’m old fashioned but I notice that a lot of folks use sfx to describe what they are doing. I suppose that means Special Effects? In hollywood SFX means Sound Effects. VFX is the more appropriate term out this way. We even have division between Special Effects and Visual Effects. Special effects usually means things down in camera such as pyrotechnics or wire rigs. A special effects person usually sets that sort of thing up and a visual effects person deals with the imagery. Not that there isn’t cross polenation just that this seems to be the way things are divided.

So what’s it like in your country?

As for me I know that VFX is more correct but most of the the people I talk too use SFX to describe special effects (visual). So it just a sticky word, I guess. We understand each other.

I don’t know how it’s named in industry for I’m just an enthusiast. 3d, VFX/SFX and things like that are a hobby for me.

PS: just to mention, I live in Russia and professionals here talk a strange-sounding mix of russian and english (more english in my case). This kind of mix is incorrect by design. :slight_smile:

lol, Im just glad somebody pointed it out. SFX has always read as Sound FX to me as well. VFX is a much clearer acronym for what we do :slight_smile:
