Setting position

Is there any way that you can set the position of a number of vertices at the same time?

For example, I know that I can select a number of vertices and if I go to the info section of the stat and info panel I can see the x, y and z positions of each of them but if I want to set them all to let’s say the same y-location, I have to change the y setting for each vertex individually. I can’t find a way to set all of them to the same position at the same time.

Is there a way that I’m missing?
