Set Flow Function - Alternative in c4d ?

#1

Hi

the “set Flow” function in 3dsmax is a tool that adapts a selected Edge Loop’s curvature to his neighbours.

In other words the edge loop gets a nice rounding like in the example picture here.

As visible the cut interpolates the surfaces curve and the hyper nurbs result looks also quite good.

Does anyone know a plugin or workaround how to achieve this in Cinema 4D R13 ?
Maybe i am overlooking a feature?
This would be a real time saver for me.

Thanks in advance

Not possible with one command out of the box :frowning:
But I have a little workaround using Michael Welters smooth plugin (click), which works for many situations:

Open the smooth plugin window. Set the filter to curvature flow and activate “use squared operator”. Sometimes you have to play around with other settings. But this works most of the time for cuts with surrounding geometry.
Then just use knife with edge mode and activate “select cuts”. So everytime you cut a new loop it gets selected and then you can apply the smooth.

That feature actually originated in Cinema 4D in the plugin Mesh Surgery (before any other app and way before it ever appeared in Max). Unfortunately that plugin is no more and it’s functionality hasn’t been replicated in the core. However you can use the above method, as well as the iron tool, and finally the axis in normals mode to pull out a cut/selected edge ring to maintain surface curvature, it’s more clunky but it’s an option.

I’d love to see this in the core, just one of many modelling tool tweaks I think we’d all appreciate…
Just suggested it: http://www.maxon.net/support/suggestions.html

i dont know if all c4d users are aware of the modelling feature sets in polyboost, maybe
this link here can inspire some plugin programmers and expand their mind about modelling tool possibilities:

http://www.polyboost.com/features_modelling.htm

small info: the graphite modelling tools in 3dsmax 2013 are based upon polyboost.
i am not sure, but i think i ve read once that autodesk has bought polyboost and integrated it.

kind regards
