Hi All!
I’ve been studying animation for the past year, and for this project we were in a group of 3 students and had to each create a character, then make something of our own using all 3 characters. I created the brown character, and made this trailer animating all of them. I had 3 weeks to model/texture my guy and animate and edit the whole thing. My goal is to learn character animation, so any tips, or advice to help me improve would be really helpful.
Thank you in advance!

It’s impressive considering how much time you had. Things to think about: All your keyposes should have dramatic silhouettes. Isolated movement of just one body part can look awkward so a little subtle movement on other body parts can help. Basically study and understand the 12 principals of animation and read Richard Williams Animator’s Survival Kit. Look at reference footage. Act things out when you animate it.
Thanks so much Neil! That’s great advice, I will definitely study up on the principals! Thank you for taking the time to help me!
Definitely act it out. You need to improve on your acting and posing.
I understand you are enrolled in a school, and there is a curriculum you have to follow. But if Character animation is your goal, try your best to focus on it, and don’t get too caught up modeling or texturing.
Thanks Desmond! I definitely want to try to film some reference footage for the next thing I do.
