Searching for Pros willing to make starcraft-like game

#1

Hi. I have a team of 3, working on a project codename “Armageddon” and we need some help. We have a couple things: Photoshop, 3D Gamestudio Pro 6.22 (a friend gave me), and A text-based php based game. Now what we want to do is transfer the ideas in the text based game to a 3d Rts (real time strategy) like starcraft. Does anyone know if this can be accomplished on 3D Gamestudio and if possible, how to do it? Also, If not, we need a good engine that is royalty free yet free so that we can work on such a game? If we cant make it Starcraft style, then could someone teach us to make it Final Fantasy style? I am fluent in PHP (1 year) as a developer under the Apocalypse Gaming Engine (apocnation.com), and I know photoshop/html pretty well. I’m learning Visual C++ for this project (just started) but need to know if I’m heading in the right direction.

So basically my questions are:
What kind of engine is needed for starcraft style game?
How much will it cost us?
Can we get it for free?
Lisence Limiting factors?
Can we make one with our resources?
If not any of the above then how bout Final Fantasy style?

If anyone is interested in helping me, pm me, post here, email me at kajecounterhack@gmail.com, or AIM at kajecounterhack. Thanks in advance.

Hi, if you’ve making a Starcraft like game then I assume it will be 2D with a 3D look!

I’m writing a game myself at the moment and are using HGE (Haaf’s Game Engine) www.relishgames.com it’s free for non-commercial use so you can use it as much as you like and only pay if you end up publishing a game.

The full price for a shareware license for unlimited titles is about 150 Euro which is good. You don’t get much programmer time for that amount of money.

It’s a 2D engine that’s highly optimized, powerful and simple. It runs under DirectX D3D so has hardware alpha blending, sprite rotations, stretching, scaling, warping and tinting.

I actually got to help the author extend the engine and have an unofficial version (www.hoek.inkblue.net).

My biggest problem is my lack of artistic ability! No graphics = no game or… stinky graphics = stinky game!

The engine requires a MSVC++ compatible compiler (Borland, Mingw32 and a few others are supported).

I searched the Internet for a LONG time before using HGE as it was affordable, small learning curve, compact, and had all the features I needed without a tonne of bloat.

Hope this helps!
