Seamless Tileable Displacement

#1

I need to find a way to create seamless tileable displacement maps in mudbox.

I’m creating a rock texture for a large area I would like tileable maps. With tileable maps, I can move the UV’s to pull different areas from the same texture, and it would be ideal to be able to use the area across the seam.

I’ve seen Wayne Robsons video here, http://www.mudboxhub.com/s/videos, but that technique doesn’t work with sculpting.

Thanks,

Zach Gray

Any reason you can’t just make your displacement map tileable inside Photoshop, then export to your 3D package?

Flaming Pear “Tessalation” is a decent filter for doing so. I’ll try it myself and get back to you!

I need to do this for 3 maps at once, 32bpc exr displacement, normal, and AO.

Photoshop is a bit limited with filters for 32bit image manipulation, but I’ll give it a try. Perhaps with an action to keep the maps consistent.

Found the answer with Z-Brush. I’d quit using it after mudbox was released.

Thanks for ideas.
